Then push the slotted washer up as well. The washer can now be removed from the
cable through the slot.
4.
Insert the cable with the quick coupling, strain relief, loose nut and threaded tube
through the pre-drilled hole from the inside until it is closed off by the large washer
that remains. Now push the slotted washer beneath the strain relief along the cable
again and secure it with the hexagon nut that was loosened in Step 3.
5.
Screw the strain relief back onto the end of the threaded tube and secure the cable
with the locking screw.
6.
Use two screws to mount the electronic ballast (1) on a non-flammable, sturdy base
near the light socket mounted according to Numbers 1 – 5. Make sure it is close
enough to the light socket so that the special ignition cable (5) will not be kinked or
pulled.
7.
Now, connect the quick coupling (6) between the light socket and the electronic ballast
by pushing the two coupling pieces together until the fastener snaps in place.
8.
Screw a metal halide lamp such as JBL ReptilDesert L-U-W Light or JBL ReptilJungle
L-U-W Light into the socket (4). Make sure to hold the socket with the other hand to
prevent it from twisting. Make sure that the metal halide lamp and JBL TempSet Unit
L-U-W have the same wattage.
9.
Connect the mains lead (2) to the power supply. A standard automatic timer can also
be used as an alternative.
PLEASE NOTE:
Metal halide lamps go through an ignition process before switching on, so that it takes some
time before they attain their full brightness. The lamp may flicker slightly when starting. After the
power supply is cut and then restored, the metal halide lamp will only turn on again after a brief
cooling-off period and with a new ignition procedure.
If the lamp suddenly goes out after it has been in use for some time, this may be due to
overheating of the electronic ballast. If the electronic ballast is not sufficiently ventilated e.g. if it
is located in the space between the back of the terrarium and the wall of the room, the electronic
ballast is protected against damage from overheating by an automatic shut-off function. If this
occurs, disconnect the electronic ballast from the mains and move it to a different spot with
sufficient ventilation. Wait 10 minutes and then reconnect the electronic ballast to the mains.
