Light Bar 3 parts, incl. PIR
Item no. 35 84 04

Intended use

The product is used as additional lamp in dry indoor rooms (e.g. to light wardrobes, attics etc.)
and it functions independently of the mains voltage.
The product can be operated via batteries or rechargeable batteries (not included in the deliv-
ery, to be ordered separately).
A PIR sensor in the main unit detects temperature changes within the detection range and
activates not only the LEDs in the main unit itself but also the LEDs in the two additional light
bars via radio signal.
Use of this device in any other way than as described above is not permitted. All the safety and
assembly instructions must be carefully followed!
This product complies with the applicable national and European requirements. All names of
companies and products are the trademarks of the respective owners. All rights reserved.

Package Contents

• Light bar main unit with integrated PIR
• 2x additional light bars
• Mounting material (retaining bracket, double-sided adhesive tape, screws, plugs)
• Operating instructions

Safety Instructions

The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions. We do not assume any liability for any resulting
damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused
by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions. The
warranty will be void in such cases!
• Unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not allowed for
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children! Install the
product out of the reach of children.
• This product is to be installed and used only in dry conditions indoors. The product
must not get damp or wet.
• Do not use this product in rooms or under adverse environmental conditions where
combustible gases, vapours or dust are or may be present! There is a risk of explo-
sion!
• The product must not be exposed to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or
heavy mechanical stress.
• The product is suitable for use only in temperate, not tropical, climates.
• Caution, LED light:
Do not look directly into the LED light!
Do not look into the beam directly or with optical instruments!
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• If you have any questions that are not answered in this manual, please contact our
technical service or another specialist.
Notes on (rechargeable) batteries
• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must be kept out of the reach of children.
• Check that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries/rechargeable batteries (pay
attention to plus and minus).
• Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; they could be swallowed by chil-
dren or pets. If they are swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
• Leaking or damaged normal / rechargeable batteries in contact with the skin can cause acid
burns; therefore, use suitable safety gloves.
Liquids leaking from batteries/rechargeable batteries are very chemically aggressive. Ob-
jects or surfaces coming into contact with these liquids might be considerably damaged.
Thus, store batteries/rechargeable batteries in a suitable location.
• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into fi re.
There is a risk of explosion!
• Conventional batteries must not be recharged. Risk of explosion! Only charge rechargeable
batteries that are intended for this purpose; use a suitable battery charger.
• Never mix batteries and rechargeable batteries; do not mix normal and rechargeable batter-
ies with different charges (e.g. full and half-full batteries). Always use batteries/rechargeable
batteries of the same type and manufacturer.

Inserting/replacing the Batteries

www.conrad.com
Version 05/13
• Open the battery compartment on the top of the 3 light bars (push the battery compartment
lid out in a lateral direction) and insert 3 batteries of type AA/mignon in each battery compart-
ment. Observe the correct polarity (pay attention to positive/+ and negative/-, see labelling in
the corresponding battery compartment).
• Close the battery compartment again.
• A battery change is necessary when the LEDs light up only weakly or do not light at all.
Functional Description of the PIR Sensor
The PIR sensor integrated in the light bar main unit responds to temperature changes within
the detection range, e.g. if a person whose temperature is different from the background enters
the detection range.
To ensure optimum detection, the PIR sensor must be placed so that the object to be detected
does not approach the PIR sensor directly but rather passes through the detection area from
left to right or vice versa. Keep this in mind when installing the product.
Detection through glass (e.g. other objects) is theoretically not possible.
The range for detecting a temperature change in the detection range is determined by several
factors:
• The PIR sensor's mounting height
• Temperature difference between the moving object and the background (ambient)
• The size of the object
• The distance of the object from the PIR sensor
• Direction and speed of the movement
• Ambient temperature
Installation
• The 3 light bars can be installed at the desired mounting location, e.g. a wardrobe, using the
retaining brackets enclosed.
The installation is also possible using double-sided adhesive tape. For this purpose, the
mounting surfaces should be smooth, even and free of dust and grease.
• The light bars' main unit with the integrated PIR sensor must be mounted so that the desired
detection area is within the fi eld of vision of the PIR sensor.
The PIR sensor monitors the complete area directly before the light bar (cone-shaped detec-
tion range, 80°). Prior to the fi nal, permanent mounting, check that the temperature change
is detected correctly and the LEDs in the light bar light up.
• Both additional light bars, along with the light bar main unit are switched on and off via radio
signal. Intervisibility between the 3 light bars is not required.
• The radio transmission range between the light bar main unit and the two additional light bars
in the free fi eld (i.e. without walls.) is up to 30 m.
Depending on what type of wall and how many walls are within the radio transmission
path (or metal parts, cables, wires, electrical devices or other products of the same radio
frequency), the range might be considerably reduced.
When using rechargeable batteries, expect a shorter operating time or a lower
brightness due to the lower operating voltage (Battery = 1.5 V/cell, rechargeable
battery = 1.2 V/cell).
If you want to use rechargeable batteries despite these limitations, we recommend
the use of NiMH batteries with low self-discharge.
There are slots for the retaining brackets at the side of the light bars. When tighten-
ing the retaining brackets, pay attention to the correct position, otherwise the light
bars will not click into place.
Switching the additional light bars on manually and individually is not possible. They
are always activated together with the light bar main unit.
However, you can switch off the additional light bars separately if you don't need
them.
To fi nd out more about the functions of the sliding switches on the light bars, please
read the section "Getting Started".
