INSTRUCTION FOR USE
The Henry Schein dual FeLV and FIV rapid test is used to test for feline leucosis virus (FeLV) antigen and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) antibodies in full blood,
serum, and plasma.
HANDLING THE SAMPLE
Do not keep the samples at room temperature for too long. Serum and plasma can be stored between 2–8°C for up to 3 days. For longer storage, the samples should be frozen
at below -20°C. Venous full blood should be stored between 2–8°C, if the test is due to be carried out within 2 days from sampling. Do not freeze full blood samples. If samples
are being sent somewhere, they should be packed in accordance with local regulations concerning aetiological agents. Bring the samples to room temperature before testing.
Frozen samples must be fully thawed before testing and mixed well. Samples should not be refrozen and re-thawed.
General instructions for the use of blood samples:
Separate the serum or plasma as rapidly as possible from the blood, to avoid haemolysis Heparin blood and EDTA blood can be used to extract plasma Only use clear
rather than haemolysed samples • Testing should take place immediately after sampling
I. TESTING IN THE CASE OF SERUM AND PLASMA
1. Take blood from the cat and extract the serum or plasma. Using the pipette, take up the sample material obtained. Add two drops of the sample material to the two test
fields. Let the sample material soak in for a few seconds.
2. Then open the reagent vial and add two drops to each of the test fields. The fluid begins to run up the test strip. If the fluid does not begin to run up after a few seconds, add a
further drop to the reagent vial.
II. TESTING FULL BLOOD
1. Take blood from the cat. Using the pipette from the test, take up the sample material obtained. Add a drop of the sample material to the two test fields. Let the sample
material soak in for a few seconds.
2. Then open the reagent vial and add two drops to each of the test fields. The fluid begins to run up the test strip. If the fluid does not begin to run up after a few seconds, add a
further drop to the reagent vial.
ANALYSIS
After 10 minutes, the test can be analysed. One or two red lines appear in the reaction field.
POSITIVE TEST RESULT:
The test line and the control line become visible. The virus in
question is demonstrated. The figure shows a positive FeLV test
result.
NB: even a faint test line must be interpreted as a positive test
result.
DISPOSAL
All materials used must be disposed of carefully, because the material could be infectious. Test materials and used cassettes must be put in plastic bags and
then disposed of.

El test FeLV&FIV Henry Schein sirve para la detección del antígeno del virus de la leucemia felina (FeLV) y los anticuerpos del virus de inmunodeficiencia
felina (FIV) en sangre completa, suero y plasma.
TRATAMIENTO DE LA MUESTRA
Conserve las muestras durante no demasiado tiempo a temperatura ambiente. El suero y el plasma se pueden conservar hasta 3 días a 2-8°C. Para una
conservación más prolongada se deben congelar las muestras por debajo de -20°C. La sangre completa venosa debe mantenerse a 2-8°C si se realiza la prueba
en los 2 días siguientes a la toma de la muestra. No se deben congelar las muestras de sangre completa. Si se transportan las muestras deben ser envasadas de
acuerdo con las disposiciones locales sobre materiales etiológicos. Antes de realizar la prueba deje las muestras a temperatura ambiente. Se deben
descongelar totalmente las muestras congeladas y mezclarlas bien antes de proceder a la prueba. Las muestras no se deben congelar y descongelar repetidas
veces.
Advertencias generales para la utilización de muestras de sangre:
Separe lo antes posible el suero o plasma de la sangre, para evitar la hemolisis Se puede utilizar sangre heparinizada y sangre con EDTA para la obtención
de plasma • Utilice solamente muestras claras y no hemolizadas • La prueba debe realizarse inmediatamente después de la obtención de la muestra
I. REALIZACIÓN DEL TEST CON SUERO Y PLASMA
1. Tome sangre del gato y extraiga el suero o plasma. Con ayuda de la pipeta tome el material de muestra obtenido. Deposite
ensayo. Deje que la muestra se absorba durante unos segundos.
2. A continuación abra el frasco de reactivo y añada dos gotas a cada zona de ensayo. El líquido comienza a ascender por la tira reactiva. Si al cabo de unos segundos no
comienza a subir, añada una gota más del frasco de reactivo.
II. REALIZACIÓN DEL TEST CON SANGRE COMPLETA
1. Tome sangre del gato. Con ayuda de la pipeta tome el material de muestra obtenido. Deposite una gota de la muestra en ambas zonas de ensayo. Deje que la muestra se
absorba durante unos segundos.
2. A continuación abra el frasco de reactivo y añada dos gotas a cada zona de ensayo. El líquido comienza a ascender por la tira reactiva. Si al cabo de unos segundos no
comienza a subir, añada una gota más del frasco de reactivo.
EVALUACIÓN
Al cabo de 10 minutos se puede evaluar la prueba. Aparecen una o dos líneas rojas en la zona de reacción.

Only the control line becomes visible.
INVALID:
If no control line is shown, the test is invalid. NB: the maximum time to
reading is 20 minutes. All results read after 20 minutes are invalid.
