Using the 10/100MBit Network Switch
The 3 ports on the network switch can be connected to your computer or other network switch
or a router.
All 3 ports support the automatic recognition of an uplink as well as a connection to
another network switch. Therefore, you only need a conventional 1:1 connected
network cable and not an expensive crossed uplink cable.
The LAN LEDs on the front will light up when a network connection is available (LINK function)
and blink during data transfer (ACT function).
Audio Connection
In addition, a USB sound card is integrated in the multi-card reader. At the front of the casing are
found two 3.5mm jack plugs for connecting a headphone and a microphone.
Windows normally activates the USB sound card in the multi-card reader auto-
matically, after connection to the computer.
If you want to use the sound card in your computer, just select the desired sound
card in the Windows Control Panel.
Tips & Notes
a) USB card reader
• Make sure that the read-only access (slide switch in the memory card), where applicable, is
switched off when deleting or writing to memory cards in SD format.
• Where possible, use a USB 2.0 port to connect the card reader to your computer.
The maximum data signalling rate used by USB1.1 is only 800kByte/s.
With USB 2.0, more Mbyte/s are possible, depending on the speed of your memory card!
Therefore, for a faster transfer rate you should always connect the multi-card reader to a
USB2.0 port (great time savings during data transfer to and from the memory card or to a
USB2.0 device connected to the USB hub).
• Always remove the memory card from the card reader, before switching off the computer.
b) USB hub
• The USB2.0 hub is USB1.1 compatible. This means that normal USB1.1 devices can be used
with no problems on the USB2.0 Hub. However, this will not speed up the USB1.1 devices!
Should your computer still have USB1.1 and USB 2.0 ports (all modern computers only have
USB2.0 interfaces), always connect the device to a USB2.0 port on the computer, in order to
use the higher transfer rate.
• Normally, USB operation is not possible in DOS or in the protected mode of Windows.
Nevertheless, depending on the computer or BIOS /Setup settings, it possible to use a USB
keyboard and a USB mouse. It is necessary, however, to connect them directly to the
computer's USB interface, i.e. not to the USB Hub.
• The enclosed wall plug transformer provides an output current of 3A. For this reason, not all
of the 7 USB ports can deliver a maximum voltage of 500mA.
c) Network switch
• In the same way as a conventional 5 or 8 port network switch, it is not important which of the
3 ports on the the multi-card reader's integrated network switch is used first.
• Switching between 10 and 100MBit happens automatically.
d) USB sound card
• It is possible to connect a headphone and a microphone (or a headset) to both 3.5mm jack
plugs. Please pay attention to the for the plugs on the casing.
• The playback or recording volume can be changed in Windows Control Panel.
• Please bear in mind when using the microphone that, when necessary, you have to select/acti-
vate the microphone input in Windows Control Panel first, before recording.
Depending on the microphone used, the microphone amplifier needs to be activated in the
audio features in the Windows Control Panel, otherwise the microphone will only make a low
sound.
Disposal
Electric and electronic products must not be disposed of in the domestic waste.
Dispose of the product at the end of its serviceable life in accordance with the
current statutory requirements; e. g. return it to any suitable collection point.
