The product is intended for installation in an 8.89 cm/3.5" slot of a computer case. From there it provides two
external USB3.0 ports, which must be connected to a corresponding terminal on the mainboard.
In addition to this, up to two 6.35 cm/2.5" hard disks (or SSDs) can be installed in the installation slot.

Installation
If in doubt about how to install the device correctly, please contact and entrust the work
to an expert or a specialist workshop!
Switch off the computer in which the hard disk case is to be installed and all connected
devices. Disconnect all devices from the mains voltage and pull out the mains plug! Just
turning off at the on/off switch is not enough!
• Open your computer's case and carefully remove the cover.
• Look for a free 8.89 cm / 3.5" installation slot and remove the attached front panel.
Often there is a metal shielding behind it, which has to be removed fi rst. With some casings, this can be
unscrewed; with others, you have to carefully break it out.
Depending on the casing, you may have to remove the entire front cover fi rst.
• If desired, install one or two 6.35 cm/2.5" hard disks or SSDs in the installation bay unit. To do this, use 4
of the enclosed 8 hard disk screws for each operating system.
Any combination of operating systems with a profi le of 9.5mm and 7mm can be screwed into the installa-
tion bay unit.
If you want to install an operating system with a 12.5 mm profi le (some 1 TB hard disks, for example are
of this thickness), then only one of these operating systems can be installed. Combining two operating
systems requires the second one to be installed at the top, as shown in the following diagram:
max. 9.5 mm
max. 9.5 mm
• Lay the USB3.0 cable to the side of the operating systems.
• Push the cable and the installation bay unit carefully into the 8.89 cm/3.5" system drawer of your compu-
ter's casing.
• Screw the installation bay unit fi rmly into the computer, so that the front is fi xed fl ush with the computer
casing front.
• Connect the USB3.0 mainboard input with a corresponding internal USB3.0 terminal on your mainboard.
A catch on the side of the input head prevents faulty/twisted connection.
If your mainboard has no internal USB3.0 port, then you can, for example, insert an internal USB3.0
upgrade card with a corresponding terminal.
• Secure the cable so that it cannot slip out of the terminals and get lodged in a fan in the computer's casing.
Use cable ties to secure it, for example.
• Depending on which SSDs or hard disks you have installed in the installation bay unit, you will need to
provide a corresponding cooling system, e.g. a fan, to deal with the generation of heat. Otherwise the high
temperatures reached can reduce the durability of the SSDs/hard disks.
• Close the computer housing.

• Connect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all of the devices.
• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off again immediately and check all the cable connec-
tions.

Tips and Notes
• You can insert any type of USB device into the two USB3.0 ports in the installation bay unit, in the same
way you use any other USB ports of your computer.
• Naturally, the USB3.0 ports can also be used for conventional USB2.0/1.1 devices, because USB3.0 ports
are downwardly compatible.
However, there is not usually any increase in speed to be expected.
• The theoretical maximum speed for USB3.0 (or also USB2.0/1.1) is never achieved in practice. This is due
to protocol information, simultaneous operation of several USB devices or the speed limit of the connected
device or the USB controllers/motherboards.
• USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use. This means that you do not have to
switch off your computer when you want to plug in or unplug devices (with other interfaces this can cause
damage, e.g., if you connect or disconnect a PS/2 mouse during operation).
If, however, data transfers are in progress on the USB port, e.g. if an external disk is inputting data to the
computer, and you unplug the USB plug, the system might crash or the data system on the disk may be
damaged!
• For some USB devices (e.g. USB hard drives) Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 displays an
icon with an arrow in the menu bar. Via this function you can "separate" the USB device from the PC and
therefore tell the PC to close open fi les. After this, you can safely remove the USB device without losing
any data.
• Only use suitable USB3.0 cables for connecting USB3.0 devices. Please note that the data transfer rate
may decrease if the USB3.0 cables are very long.
• In order for the USB3.0 ports on your mainboard to function, the relevant drivers must be installed. The
same applies if you install an upgrade card with USB3.0 ports into the computer.
To do this, follow the operating instructions for the mainboard or the upgrade card.
Disposal
12.5 mm
max. 9.5 mm
Before opening the PC again, disconnect the PC from the mains voltage, see above!
Depending on the speed of either the USB2.0 chip set in your computer or in an external USB2.0
hard disk enclosure however, small differences in speeds are possible.
Dispose of an unserviceable product in accordance with the relevant statutory regulations.
