Connection to a USB device
The provided software has to be installed on every PC that will have access to the
USB device connected to the USB server.
Due to the principle used, only one computer can use the USB device connected to the USB
server. The USB server works similarly, as if the USB device was connected directly to the PC.
If another user wants to have access to the device, select the option „ Request Remote to dis-
connect" by right-clicking on the USB server in the software.
A system message „.....has requested that you disconnect. Would you like to disconnect"
appears on the computer presently connected to the USB device. If „Yes" is clicked and the pres-
ent connection to the USB server is disconnected and the other user can connect to the USB
device connected to the USB server.
Miscellaneous
Observe the (English) instruction manual on the manufacturer's CD. (PDF format).
To view the file, you need „Acrobat Reader" which you can download free of charge
at www.adobe.com.
• Suitable USB devices
The USB server allows the connection and operation of any USB device. Depending on the
USB driver, problems may occur if the USB driver does not require a direct USB connection.
The provided software emulates the direct connection; i.e. there is no difference for most driv-
ers, if the USB device is directly connected to the computer or operated via the USB server.
Due to the multitude of USB devices, we cannot guarantee that every USB device is suitable
for connection to the USB server! In this case, the USB device needs to be connected, as usu-
al, directly to a USB connection of the computer and not to the USB server.
• Password:
Access to the connected USB device can be safeguarded by a password.
If you forget the password, the USB server can be reset to default settings with the button
„RESET", see below.
• Restoring default settings:
The USB server can be reset to default setting as follows:
Press the counter-sunk „RESET" button e.g. with a toothpick for 10 seconds. Consequently,
the USB server is reset to the default settings; you can release the „RESET"-button. The USB
server requires up to 30 seconds for a restart.
• Power supply for the external drive
The provided power supply unit has an output current of 2A so that e.g. hard discs without
internal power supply (6.35cm/2.5") can be operated.
• Software
The provided software has to be installed on every PC that has access to the USB device at
the USB server.
There can be only one connection at the same time. The simultaneous access of (e.g.) two
computers to the USB device connected to the USB server is not possible.
Maintenance and cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any rea-
son.
Please use a soft, dry, clean cloth for cleaning. Do not use any chemical cleaning agents, they
can discolour the plastic housing and remove the inscription.
Handling
Only to be used indoors in dry rooms. The product must not get damp or wet,
danger of a fatal electric shock!
Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold into a warm
room. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit.
Allow the product to reach room temperature. This may take several hours. Only
then can the transformer be plugged into the mains and the router put into opera-
tion.
Ensure that the insulation of the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
The housing must not be opened! Any maintenance or repair work must only be car-
ried out by authorised personnel.
Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, do NOT connect the unit to the mains voltage! This pres-
ents a danger to life!
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if
- the device shows visible damage,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- after being stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit
If the product is not to be used for a longer period, unplug the power supply unit.
Bear in mind that a connection to the USB server and the USB device connected to
it is no longer possible.
The following unfavourable conditions are to be avoided when installing or trans-
porting the product:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations
- Strong magnetic fields, such as in the proximity of machines or loudspeakers
When setting up the product, ensure that the cables are neither bent nor squeezed.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the house-
hold waste!
When disposing of an unserviceable product, do so in keeping with the relevant
statutory regulations.
