XBA 18 Manual 1.0
3 Connectors and Control
Features
Connectors and control features are mounted out
of harm's way on a recessed panel on the rear of
the XBA 18.
1 Crossover
Engage this bypass to remove the XBA 18's integra-
ted crossover from the signal path. This is necessary
whenever you use an external active controller (for
example, the DDO or DFC) to drive the XBA 18.
2 Frequency
Twist this knob to dial in the integrated crossover's
upper frequency limit within a range of 60 to
100 Hz. This setting depends on the sound rein-
forcement system connected to the XBA 18.
3 Gain
Twist this knob to dial in levels for the 18" woofer in
the XBA 18.
4 Left/Mono Input (XLR- female)
Connecting cords: Feed the signal from your mixer
(master left/right, line out, or similar circuit) to the
balanced Input ports using a standard XLR micro-
phone cord. Ensure the XLR plugs' pin assignments
are pin (1) = ground, pin (2) = signal (+),
pin (3) = signal (-).
More about pin assignments
The XLR port's pin assignments comply with the in-
ternational IEC 268-12 standard. In accordance with
this standard, pin 1 is the ground, while pin 2 carries

the positive signal and pin 3 the negative signal.
The stereo 1/4" jack's tip carries the positive signal,
its ring carries the negative signal, and the ground
circuit is routed via the sleeve. When you insert an
unbalanced mono plug, the input's unbalanced ope-
rating mode is automatically engaged.
5 Through Left (XLR-male)
Connecting cords: This is a parallel output for
routing the line signal (left or right) to other
systems, outboard components, monitor power
amps, etc., via XLR cords.
6 Right Input (XLR-female)
Connecting cords: Feed the signal from your mixer
(master left/right, line out, or similar circuit) to the
balanced Input ports using a standard XLR micro-
phone cord. Ensure the XLR plugs' pin assignments
are pin (1) = ground, pin (2) = signal (+),
pin (3) = signal (-).
7 Through Right (XLR-male)
Connecting cords: This is a parallel output for
routing the line signal (left or right) to other
systems, outboard components, monitor power
amps, etc., via XLR cords.
8 Phase
Use this switch to determine the XBA 18's polarity.
This setting depends on the sound reinforcement
system connected to the XBA 18.
0°:
The XBA 18's polarity is positive (in phase).
180°: The XBA 18's polarity is negative (out of
phase).

9 Protect LED
Dedicated LED for the power amp channel light up
red to indicate the XBA 18 has switched to Protect
mode due to power overload, overheating or an in-
ternal problem. When in Protect mode, the XBA 18's
power amp channel is muted.
10 Signal und Clip LEDs
Dedicated LEDs for the power amp channel indicate
the incoming audio signal's level.
11 Power LED
Dedicated LED for the power amp channel light up
blue to indicate the XBA 18 is switched on and ready
to operate.
12 Power Switch
Handling: On/off switch for the XBA 18.
Note: Once you have engaged the Power switch,
it will take several seconds for the display to light
up and the system to be ready for operation. This
is standard procedure and does not indicate a
malfunction.
Like any active speaker, the XBA 18 should always be
switched on last after you switch on all connected
devices, and switched off first before you switch off
all connected devices.

13 Mains Input
Connecting cords: Use the factory-included
PowerCon mains cord to connect this socket to a
wall receptacle.
Caution! Make sure the local mains voltage matches
the voltage specified on the device. Connecting the
system to the wrong mains voltage may destroy the
XBA 18's electronic components.
