16. General safety notes

• Mishandling batteries and battery char-
gers can result in the batteries catching
fire and even exploding.
• The Power Peak E1 is suitable solely for
charging, discharging and equalizing
rechargeable NC / NiMH, Lead-acid and
Lithium batteries. Do not attempt to
recharge dry cells - explosion hazard.
• The charger is designed for use with a
DC power source supplying 11 ... 15 V
DC; this can be a car battery or a mains
PSU with a suitable rating. Never con-
nect it to any other voltage.
• It is essential to protect the charger from
dust, dirt and damp.
• Do not subject the charger to excessive
heat or cold, nor to direct sunlight.
• Avoid shock and pressure loads, and do
not subject the Power Peak E1 to
severe vibration.
• Never place the charger and the batte-
ries connected to it on any form of flam-
mable surface. Never operate the char-
ger in the vicinity of inflammable materi-
als or gases.
• Do not open the charger when it is con-
nected to a power source.
• Do not leave the charger operating
unsupervised. It is normal for the char-
ger to become quite hot when operating.
• Ensure that there is an unrestricted air-
flow to and from the charger's cooling
slots.
• If you will not be using the charger for a

protracted period, disconnect it from the
power source and any batteries con-
nected to it.
• Never charge any battery a second time
immediately after its initial charge.
• Do not charge a battery which is already
warm or hot to the touch. Allow packs to
cool down to ambient temperature before
continuing.
• Packs to be charged as a unit must con-
sist of cells of the same make, the same
type and the same capacity.
• Do not charge two batteries connected in
parallel to one output; connect only one
battery at a time.
• Take great care to maintain correct bat-
tery polarity, and avoid short-circuits.
• Read the battery manufacturer's instruc-
tions and adhere to them strictly.
• Always take great care to check the set-
tings of the Power Peak E1. Batteries
may be completely ruined if the settings
are not appropriate.
• Check the charger case and cables for
damage at regular intervals.
• Please take particular care when hand-
ling battery packs containing a large
number of cells. The voltage of these
packs is high enough to give you a
serious electric shock, so ensure that all
terminals are properly insulated.
• Do not disconnect the battery during a
charge process without first pressing the
Stop button. The charger's high output
voltage can generate massive sparking if
you ignore this instruction.
