ATCU – Throttle Control Unit Installation Checklist
•Pre-assemble whole unit before fitting / drilling deck.
•Check gear engagement and throttle in neutral.(button depressed).
•Check forward and reverse propulsion before casting off.
•Max.deck thickness = 30mm.
•Mount faceplate first, ensuring `O` ring is enclosed by back plate onto faceplate. (Refer to Assembly
Drawing).
•Make sure when the throttle unit is fitted that the white line on the boss aligns with vertical line on the
faceplate, when in neutral.
•The boss must be located to the full depth of axle and the three grub screws tightened and secured with
thread lock adhesive.
•Ensure the boss stands out from the face plate. Adjust the black spacers if necessary.
•Cables should be of good quality (minimum friction). They should be led to the engine in long radii, (no less
than a 300mm radius), fixed in position and not forced around bulkheads or engine compartments. (Item
purchased separately).
•Throttle / gear levers and cable ends should not interfere with each other on the reverse of the throttle
control unit. (Item purchased separately).
Note:
For outboard engines, add 1.25m (4 feet) to the length of the cable for a loop to allow for engine swing.
Maintenance and Corrosion Protection
For maximum protection, especially in a salt water environment, the faceplate, boss and lever should be
washed in fresh water on a regular basis.
Periodically check the Control Head Mechanism for loose fasteners and signs of wear of moving parts. Keep
metal moving parts well lubricated with heavy grease and use a moisture-displacing lubricant.
Do not spray plastic components with this lubricant.
Check the cables and engine connections for signs of wear and corrosion. Replace as necessary.
Trouble Shooting Problems
Cannot select neutral – Ensure the handle is engaging the neutral
button.
Cannot select gear – Ensure the handle is moving clear of the neutral button.
Correct Operation
When you require a gear, pull the handle out until the locking part of the handle stops against the inside of
the boss.
