Jumbo Radio Wall Clock with
outdoor temperature
Item no. 401767
Intended use
The purpose of the radio wall clock is to decode the DCF radio signal of the caesium atomic clock in Braun-
schweig, to display the time, date and the indoor and outdoor temperatures as well as to provide an alarm
function.
The product consists of a base station for displaying the measured data and an outdoor sensor, which wire-
lessly transmits the outdoor temperature values to the base station by radio.
The jumbo radio wall clock and the outdoor sensor are designed exclusively for battery operation. Do not use
any other power supply. The correct battery type is specified in the "Technical Data" section.
Any use other than that described above is not permitted and can damage the product. In addition, it can lead
to hazards such as short-circuit, fire, etc.
This product complies with the applicable national and European regulations.

Safety instructions

The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety
instructions. We do not assume any liability for any resulting damage.
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by incorrect
handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such cases, the warranty will
be null and void.
In the operating manual, an exclamation mark inside a triangle indicates important in-
structions.
The "hand" symbol indicates special information and advice on operating the device.
• For safety reasons, any unauthorised conversion and/or modification to the product is not permitted.
• Do not use this product in hospitals or medical institutions. Although the outdoor sensor emits only rela-
tively weak radio signals, these may lead to the malfunction of life-support systems. The same may also
apply to other areas.
• The base station is only suitable for dry, enclosed indoor areas. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, strong
heat, cold, dampness or wetness; otherwise it may be damaged.
• The outdoor sensor is suitable for use in protected outdoor areas. It must not be used in or under water,
this will destroy it.
• Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental falls, even from a low
height.
• This product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children. Only use the product out of the
reach of children. Small parts of the product or the batteries could be swallowed.
• Condensation may form when the product is brought from a cold room into a warm one. Therefore, wait
until it has reached room temperature before using it.
• The manufacturer does not accept any liability for incorrect or inaccurate readings or any consequences
resulting from such readings.
• Do not leave packaging materials unattended. It may become a dangerous plaything for children.
• If you have any doubts about the correct operation, or the safety of the product, please consult a specialist.
• Also observe any further safety instructions in the individual sections of this operating guide.

Inserting/replacing the batteries
• Open the cover of the battery compartment (C2) on the back of the base station.
• Insert four new 1.5 V Mignon cells (AA) in the battery compartment, paying attention to the correct polarity.
The correct polarity is indicated in the battery compartment.
• Close the battery compartment of the base station again.
• Within 3 minutes, insert the batteries into the outdoor sensor.
• Open the battery compartment cover on the reverse side of the outdoor sensor and insert two new 1,5
V-Microzellen (AAA) into the battery compartment in the upright position. The correct position is shown in
the battery compartment.
• Reclose the battery compartment of the outdoor sensor.
• The clock first searches for the temperature signal of the outdoor sensor. After receiving the signal of the
outdoor sensor, the clock displays the outdoor temperature in the outdoor temperature display (A5).
• Afterwards, the clock starts searching for the DCF signal and tries to tune in.
• When the display contrast fades or when the display light no longer works, the batteries of the base station
are flat and need to be replaced as described above.
• If the batteries in the outdoor sensor have lost their charge, a battery symbol will appear both in the
sensor's display and beside the outdoor temperature gauge (A5). In this instance change the outdoor
temperature gauges batteries as described above.
• To ensure a long battery life, use only alkaline types.
DCF reception
Immediately after the reception of the outdoor sensor's signal, the device makes the first attempt to receive
the DCF signal. After a successful DCF reception, the clock is automatically set to the current time.
The reception attempt for the daily automatic synchronisation
with the DCF time is done at 03.00 AM. One successful recep-
tion per day is sufficient to keep the deviation to less than one
second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a DCF trans-
mitter in Mainflingen (near Frankfurt am Main). Its range is up
to 1,500 km and, under ideal reception conditions, even up to
2,000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise time
(theoretical deviation of 1 second in a million years!) and the
date.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manually setting
summer and winter times.

Batteries should be kept out of the reach of children.
Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries.
Remove the batteries, if you are not going to use the device for a while, to prevent dam-
age from leaking. Leaking or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries can cause acid
burns upon contact with the skin. Thus, you should wear protective gloves when han-
dling damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries.
Keep them out of the reach of children. Do not leave batteries lying around. There is a
hazard that the batteries may be swallowed by children or pets. If they are swallowed,
consult a doctor immediately.
Make sure that batteries are not short-circuited or thrown into a fire. There is a risk of
explosion.
Do not recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries; there is a risk of explosion! Only charge
rechargeable batteries that are intended for this purpose; use a suitable battery charger.
The batteries should have the same level of charge and be of the same type. Mixing old
and new batteries or mixing different batteries in the device can lead to battery leakage
and thus to damage to the device.
First insert the batteries into the base station and afterwards, insert the batteries into the outdoor
sensor.
Once the batteries are inserted, the base station starts searching for the signal of the outdoor
sensor. If you do not insert the batteries into the outdoor sensor during this time period, the
search for the sensor must be started manually. This step is also necessary after a battery
replacement in the outdoor sensor.
To start the sensor search manually, press and hold the SEARCH button (B6) on the base sta-
tion for three seconds. Then press the RESET button in the battery compartment of the outdoor
sensor with a sharp object (e.g. an open paper clip) in order to activate the transmission function.
The detection and interpretation of the DCF signal can take about five minutes. Do not move the
radio-controlled clock during this time. Do not press any buttons or switches!
To cancel the DCF reception attempt, press and hold the – °C/°F button (B5) for three seconds
until the DCF symbol (A1) in the display goes out.
Bad reception can occur, for example, by metallised insulated glass, reinforced concrete build-
ings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic devices, or installation in cellars.
If after 10 minutes the clock has not set the current time, change the location of the radio clock
and press the °C/°F (B5) button for three seconds until the DCF symbol (A1) flashes in the
display.
This will start a new reception attempt.
