INSTALLATION & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
1. Environmental conditions:
This equipment is designed to be installed inside buildings. Operating temperature: -10 to +55°C. Do not
install in a corrosive atmosphere, in an environment with hazardous conditions or in classified areas.
2. Installation site features:
A trained technician should install the equipment. As the system is designed for indoor installation the
product should be installed in a dry suitable location where:
The environment is not classified as high risk in case of fire.
Suspended particles are not found in large concentrations.
The system is placed in a private area protected against tampering.
The system must not be exposed to ultra-violet rays.
The site must be accessible to maintenance personnel.
The site must be dry with low humidity.
The site must guarantee adequate space for cables and natural ventilation of the system.
The KTX and KRX should be mounted in a reasonable location:
Do not install inside heating or air conditioning systems.
Do not install inside cable pipelines, fire prevention sites (e.g. fire escapes, lift shafts, emergency exits)
which have to adhere to defined safety standards.
The products must be accessible for tests and maintenance.
Check the environmental temperature does not exceed allowed limits.
3. Connection to the mains:
The power connection should be carried out following all necessary precautions:
It must be connected properly following safety guidelines (e.g. EN standards, IEC standards, etc.) and
local regulations.
The connection should be carried out by trained staff.
4. Safety and precautions:
KTX optical transmitters have a laser module which provides a power level that is not dangerous to a
person's health. However, KTX is classified and labelled as class 3 A equipment, according to EN60825-1.
Therefore, during installation it is recommended that the following rules are followed:
Never look directly inside the output optical connector of the transmitter when it is switched on.
The laser is not visible to the human eye therefore possible long term damage would not be obvious
immediately.
When working with the optical connectors check the transmitting lasers are switched off at each end.
ATTENTION
Installation should meet EN50083-1 requirements regarding earthing connections. So as not to
damage the unit it is recommended that the RF connections are made before plugging the mains
cable in to the mains socket.
5. Warning labels:
Warning labels (according to EN 60825-1) are situated close to
the optical output connectors.
CAUTION!
Laser radiation. Do not stare into beam or view directly with
optical instruments.
