Setting the speakers

Hifi Stereo speakers

The Stereo principle requires the listener to be at the summit of a triangle with the 2 speakers at the base.
To keep a good stereophonic image, keep your speakers away from the side walls particularly if they are
reflecting (windows, naked walls,...).
The balance between frequencies, mostly for bass, depends on the distance between the speaker and the walls.
Thus a speaker located close to a wall can see its bass level double. It is thus necessary to carefully adjust the
distance between the speaker and the walls to obtain the best balance in bass sound. Avoid having the same
distance between 2 walls and ceiling. This would create a problem of resonance in the room.

SURROUND SPEAKERS

Surround speakers can be used with a Home Theater system. They will help create a more realistic sound that
will envelop the listener into sound.
Any kind of speaker can be used as surround speaker. But it is often easier to use bookshelves speakers, smaller
in size and easier to integrate in a listening room.
The speakers diffuse sound on a ± 45° cone. They guarantee a very high sound quality but you will have to
select their location carefully. It is important to note that the best positioning for surround speakers may vary
widely depending on the listening room configuration.
Ideally, surround speakers should be placed behind the audience at a distance of more than 1m if possible. If
not, do not place the speakers too far apart.
It is also possible to place the speakers on the side walls to the left and right of your listening position.
Surround speakers should be placed high enough so that the drivers do not fire directly at your ears when
you're sitting down (they could over power your front speakers).
You may have to experiment a little before choosing the best position. Once done, you will feel right into the
action.

CENTER SPEAKER

The center speaker is one of the most important in your system. It anchors dialogue and other on-
screen sounds to the screen. It covers 80% of the sound information when you watch a movie. Thus,
it requires the use of a specific speaker. This will bring the best possible quality and clarity
especially for voices.
Place the center speaker centered above or below your TV screen. If the speaker is put on the floor it
could be necessary to tilt it a little to aim toward the listeners.
NOTE
: For the best possible listening experience, the settings (volume, balance, delay...) and
controls of your speakers must be done from your audio/video amplifier.
