GUIDE TO SLOW COOKING
Use the recommended guidelines o ered in recipe being used to determine cooking time and
heating position. Dishes can be prepared well in advance of mealtime and cooking time regulat-
ed so that food is ready to serve at a convenient time. A general rule of thumb for most slow
cooker meat-and-vegetable combos is:
Cooking Time in Recipes
8-10 Hours
4-6 Hours
Other favorite recipes may be adapted to the slow cooker. All times listed in the following table
are approximate and should serve only as cooking guidelines.
Regular Oven Cooking Time
30 minutes
35-60 minutes
1-3 hours
The cooking times given above should be used ONLY as a guide. It is recommended that a food
thermometer be used to check the temperature to ensure the food is completely cooked.
Meat and poultry require at least 6 to 8 hours on Low. Do not use frozen meat in the Slow Cooker.
Thaw any meat or poultry before slow cooking. Trim all visible fat from meat or poultry.
For chili or soup, cook dried beans 1-2 hours on High setting, then add remaining ingredients and
cook on Low for the remaining time.
When cooking curries and casseroles, richer, more intensive avors will develop when the rst
stage is prepared by traditional methods, i.e. brown the onions, meat and spices rst in a
non-stick pan.
