E (or PE) : Earth
ENGLISH
The VT11 lets you test 2P+E sockets with TT earthing and residual current
devices up to 30 mA
Precautions for use
Do not use this device as a voltage tester.
At the end of a test, disconnect the tester.
Do not connect the tester if it is damaged.
This tester cannot distinguish the earth wire from the neutral wire.
If you use this tester other than as specified, the protection it provides
may be compromised, endangering you.
Observe the environmental and storage conditions.
This self-contained portable tester is designed for use:
-
indoors
-
in an environment of pollution degree 2,
-
at an altitude of less than 2000 m,
-
at a temperature between 0° C and 40° C.
It can be used on category II 230 V installations.
Measurement (or overvoltage, or installation) categories
Definitions of the overvoltage categories taken from standards IEC
61010-1 Ed. 3 (2010), IEC 60364, and IEC 60664-1:
CAT I:
Measurements
performed
on
connected to mains, such as specially protected mains-
derived circuits.
CAT II:
Measurements performed on circuits directly connected
to the low-voltage installation. Examples: measurements
on household electrical appliances or portable tools.
CAT III:
Measurements performed on supply circuits in a building
installation, such as distribution boards, circuit-breakers,
and fixed installations.
CAT IV:
Measurements performed at the source of the low-
voltage
installation,
such
protection devices, ripple control units, and meters.
Symbols
Attention: risk of danger
Refer to this document and observe the precautions for
use.
Indoor use only.
In the European Union, this product is subject to
selective collection for the recycling of waste electrical
and electronic equipment in accordance with directive
WEEE 2002/96/EC.
European Conformity.
The tactile contact must be made by an operator who is
not insulated with respect to earth.
Cleaning
Clean the device with a damp cloth and soap. Never use abrasive
substances or solvents.
Make sure that the device is dry before using it once again.

Warranty
The equipment is warranted against defects of materials or
workmanship as stated in the general terms of sale.
During the warranty period (1 year), the manufacturer reserves the
right to choose between repair and complete or partial replacement of
the device.
If the equipment is returned to the manufacturer, carriage is to be paid
by the customer.
The warranty does not apply following:
- inappropriate use of the equipment.
- changes made to the device.
- damage caused by impacts, falls, or immersion.
Instructions for use
Testing a 2P+E socket
1 - Insert the device in a 10-16 A mains socket
2 - Check the sequence on the indicators.
3 - If a fault sequence is displayed, correct the fault, then retest
circuits
not
directly
Status / Indication
Wiring OK, phase to right
Earth missing
Phase missing
Neutral missing
Reversal of phase and neutral
Reversal of phase and earth
as
primary
overcurrent
Reversal of phase and earth
and earth missing
4 - Place your finger on the contact marked "PE test".
If the screen displays the
DANGER. Stop the test and check the installation.
Note: The VT11 cannot detect a reversal of the Neutral (N) and Earth (E)
Testing a residual current device (30 mA or less)
- Test the 2P+E socket (see previous section) and correct any fault.
- Test by pressing the pushbutton briefly (not more than 3 seconds).
- If the RCD does not trip, it is defective.
