3.2.4 Overload protection

For the purposes of protecting the operator and
the device itself, the scouring machine is equipped
with electronic and thermal overload protection:
Electronic overload protection is activated when
the contact pressure between the machine and
the surface is too high. In this case, the machine's
electronics react first by reducing the rotation
speed and then by shutting off the machine.
Once you have released or reduced the pressure
applied to the machine, you can resume normal
operation. After an automatic machine shutdown,
you must first set the ON/OFF switch to "OFF" and
then "ON" again.
Thermal overload protection protects the ma-
chine's motor from damage should it be put under
great strain for a continued period. If the motor
becomes too hot, the machine will switch itself off
automatically. Operation can be resumed once the
machine has been left to cool down for around 2
minutes. The duration of the cool-down phase can
vary depending on how hot the motor winding has
become and how warm the ambient temperature
is.

4. Maintenance

Important: Ensure that the plug has been removed
from the power socket before carrying out main-
tenance work!
• Keep the machine clean by regularly wiping it
down with a damp cloth. Ensure that no objects or
substances enter the machine's interior. Be sure
to regularly clean the machine's ventilation slots,
as the motor's fan draws dust into the machine
housing.
• Keep all cutting instruments sharp and clean.
carefully maintained cutting parts with sharp
edges become jammed less often and are easier
to operate.
• Immediately replace worn or damaged machine
parts and always ensure that the power cable is
undamaged before switching on the machine.

4.1 Troubleshooting

Problem
Possible cause
The machine is not operating.
1. The plug connector is not in
the power socket.
2. There is no current to the
plug connector.
3. The capacitor is not function-
ing correctly.
4. The carbon brushes are worn
down.

smoothly.
2. The motor may be damaged.

4.2 replacing the scouring wheels

Before replacing scouring wheels, you MUST first
switch off the machine and disconnect it from the
power supply. Failure to do this poses an extreme
risk to your safety. Furthermore, the scouring
wheels can be extremely hot directly after use.
For this reason, always wear gloves. You should
never attempt to scour hard concrete blocks or
hard rock as they wear down the scouring wheels
too quickly.
Release the M8 screw on the lower side of the
tool using an Allen key while fastening the scour-
ing head with the enclosed Y-tool. After having
removed the screw, remove the scouring head
from the machine. In every one of the four arms of
the scouring head there is a M8 screw with a hex
head. Release these screws by turning the scour-
ing head to the right. After that, the sockets can be
pulled back which releases the scouring wheels.
In order to mount new scouring wheels push
back the socket halfway into the scouring head.
Now you can alternately put on the spacers and
the scouring wheels. Putting on the fourth spacer
ends this process, after which the socket can be
pushed into the scouring head entirely. Now the
M8 screw can be entered through the drilled hole
and the socket and fastened with a turn to the left.
Finally, the scouring head can be inserted into the
machine and fastened to the drive shaft.
correction
1. check that the plug connector
is correctly inserted into the
power socket.
2. Inspect the fuse and the
On/Off switch for damage.
3. Have the capacitor replaced
at a professional repair
workshop.
4. Replace the carbon brushes
(see section 5.3).

workshop.
Note that the scouring wheels can become
jammed due to the dust generated from scouring
work. This results in a reduced surface removal
rate and greater wear on the wheels. For this
reason, ensure that the wheels can always move
freely. If the machine and its wheels become dirty,
be sure to clean them.

4.3 replacing the carbon brushes

The machine's carbon brushes and other expenda-
ble parts are subject to wear and tear and need to
be changed regularly. The inspection and replace-
ment of these parts should only be carried out by
a qualified professional. The carbon brushes have
a lifespan of approx. 50 hours or 10,000 activation/
deactivation instances and should be replaced
when worn down to approx. 7 mm.
The inspection and replacement of carbon
brushes should only be carried out at MENZER
service workshops.
