2. Function and features
The evaluation unit is a redundant diverse system to process up to 6 chains of
sensors. Up to 10 sensors can be connected.
The evaluation unit supplies/monitors the connected fail-safe switches and evaluates
their switching status. If all fail-safe switches are fully operational and correctly
damped, the evaluation unit switches the output stages.
The safe state is the state when the output stages are switched off (principle of
normally closed operation, zero-current state).
The evaluation unit complies with the category 4 according to EN 954-1 or the
requirement class 5 according to DIN V 19250/DIN V 19251 and DIN V VDE 0801.
3. Requirements for the hardware configuration
The following requirements must be complied with when using the evaluation unit
G15002.
Product-independent requirements
The safety requirements of the respective application must correspond to the
requirements stated in these instructions. The specified technical data must be
complied with. All external safety circuits connected to the system must be designed
to be de-energised (open) in the safe state.
By taking appropriate measures in the application it must be ensured that
• the evaluation units type G15002 (relay version) in operation are subjected to a
self-test within a period of maximum 3 months (intermittent operation)
• or the safety-related relay contacts are protected using a suitable fuse (see 8.
Technical data)
The self-test can be carried out by switching off and on the supply voltage or by a
safety requirement (e.g. undamping of a fail-safe switch).
Product-dependent requirements
In case of faults within the evaluation unit which result in the defined safe state,
the evaluation unit must be replaced.
