systems (chapters 1 – 7) and for users without any
specific technical knowledge (chapters 1 – 3 and
chapter 6) . Please read the instructions carefully
prior to operation and keep them for later refer-
ence .
All operating elements and connections de-
scribed can be found on the fold-out page 3 .

Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to all relevant directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING The unit uses dangerous mains
voltage . Leave servicing to skilled
personnel; inexpert handling may
result in electric shock .
When the system works with a voltage of more
than 48 V on the speaker cables, there will be a
hazard of contact with a dangerous voltage at
the monitor inputs (13) . Therefore, connect the
PA-1200M or change existing connections only
with the complete PA system switched off .
The unit is suitable for indoor use only . Protect
it against dripping water and splash water, high
air humidity and heat (admissible ambient tem-
perature range 0 – 40 °C) .
Do not place any vessel filled with liquid on the
unit, e . g . a drinking glass .
Do not operate the unit or immediately discon-
nect the plug from the mains socket
1 . if there is visible damage to the unit or to the
mains cable,
2 . if a defect might have occurred after the unit
was dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3 . if malfunctions occur .
In any case the unit must be repaired by skilled
personnel .
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the
mains plug from the socket, always seize the
plug .
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never use
chemicals or water .
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability
for any resulting personal damage or material
damage will be accepted if the unit is used for
other purposes than originally intended, if it is
not correctly connected or operated, or if it is
not repaired in an expert way .
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful
to the environment .

Applications

The PA audio monitor PA-1200M can be used for
acoustic and visual monitoring of audio signals in
PA systems with up to ten zones . The signal level
is separately indicated for each zone in five steps .
For each monitor input, the sensitivity of the in-
dicators can be matched to the rated level of the
respective zone .
The signal of a speaker zone can alternatively
be monitored via the integrated speaker or via
headphones . Furthermore, a signal with line level
(e . g . CD player or tuner) can be monitored via an
additional input .
4
Setting up the Unit
The unit has been designed for insertion into a rack
(482 mm / 19"), but it can also be used as a tabletop
unit . For rack installation, a height of 2 rack spaces
(2 rack spaces = 89 mm) is required .
5
Connecting the PA-1200M
All connections must only be made by skilled per-
sonnel and with the PA system and the monitor
switched off!
To make connection easier, disconnect the
screw terminals of the inputs DC POWER (11),
AUX (12) and MONITOR (13) from their plug-in
connections; when the connection has been made,
connect the screw terminals again .
5.1 Monitor inputs
Connect the monitor inputs (13) of the PA-1200M
.
to the monitor outputs or speaker outputs of the
amplifiers to be monitored . It is possible to connect
outputs with rated levels of 1 to 100 V .
5.2 Signal source with line level
Connect the balanced output of a signal source
with line level (0 dBm) to the AUX input (12) .
The terminal configuration is as follows:
„+" = signal +
„−" = signal −
„G" = ground / cable shielding
If an unbalanced signal source is used, connect the
signal to the terminal "+" . Connect the terminals
"−" and "G" to the cable shielding .
5.3 Headphones
For monitoring via headphones, connect the head-
phones to the 6 .3 mm jack (1) . Thus, the integrated
speaker (2) is switched off . The minimum imped-
ance of the headphones is 8 Ω .
5.4 Power supply and
emergency power supply
After all other components have been connected,
connect the PA audio monitor to a power supply .
1) Connect the supplied mains cable to the mains
jack (9) first and then to a socket (230 V/ 50 Hz) .
2) To ensure continued operation after a mains
failure, connect a 24 V emergency power supply
unit (e . g . PA-24ESP from MONACOR) to the
terminals DC POWER (11) .
Note: If the 24 V voltage from the emergency power
supply unit is available at the terminals DC POWER,
the monitor cannot be switched off with the switch
POWER (7) . In case of a mains failure or if it is switched
off, the monitor will switch automatically to the emer-
gency power supply .
6
Operation
6.1 Switching on
Prior to switching on, turn the LEVEL control (5)
to "0" . Then switch on the PA audio monitor with
the POWER switch (7) . The power LED (8) lights up .
6.2 Adjusting the input levels
Use the level controls RANGE (4) to adjust the levels
of the individual monitor inputs in such a way that
the corresponding level indicators (3) up to "0"
will light up for the maximum signal . The voltage
values printed around the level controls correspond
to the rated level of amplifier outputs and can be
used as a guidance .
6.3 Selecting the signal source
Use the rotary switch SELECTOR (6) to select the
signal source to be monitored . Choose between the
monitor inputs 1 to 10 (13) and the AUX input (12) .
In the position OFF, the speaker or the headphones
are switched off .
6.4 Adjusting the monitoring volume
Use the LEVEL control (5) to adjust the desired mon-
itoring volume for the reproduction of the selected
signal via the integrated speaker or the headphone
connection .
CAUTION Do not adjust the headphones to a
very high volume . Permanent high
volumes may damage your hearing!
Your ear will get accustomed to
high volumes which do not seem to be that high
after some time . Therefore, do not further in-
crease a high volume after getting used to it .
