3.2 Display setting through a reversal measurement

The electrical measuring system, together with
its pendulum embodying the inductive sensor,
should be mechanically aligned against the ins-
trument base, i.e. the measuring faces of the
solid body. So as to achieve a reliable alignment,
perform a so-called "reversal measurement".
Here's how to proceed:
– Carefully clean both the base of your TESA
NIVELTRONIC and horizontal flat surface, e.g.
the measuring surface of a granite plate.
– Place the level on the reference surface
and mark its position exactly by tracing the
contour of its base using a pencil (see in the
drawing below).
– Check the battery level.
– Switch the level on with measuring range
then set the display by turning the potentio-
meter to zero (see in the drawing under chap-
ter 2) for electrical zero setting of the pointer.
Note: In case the setting range of the zero po-
tentiometer is not sufficient, turn it to the middle
of its rotation range. Once this has been done,
set the indication to zero by turning the setting

screw (see below) on the back of the level with
the aid of a 2 mm head socket key.
– As next step, lift the NIVELTRONIC and turn
it by 180 ° before replacing it on the marked
position (see drawing in the lower right side).
– The pointer should be positioned to zero. If
not, make the necessary corrections as fol-
lows:
– Turn the setting screw at the rear of the
instrument until the read deviation has
reduced to half. Use the socket head key
(2 mm).
– Reset the indication to zero using the po-
tentiometer.
– Turn the level back to its initial position.
,
The indication should be aligned to zero. If
this is still not the case, repeat the whole
reversal measurement procedure.
