• For height adjustion via the chain of the cooking tripod please always observe that both the chain and
the Hanging Fire Bowl are hot. Protect your hands with heat-resistant gloves and keep enough distance
to your body and your thighs. The Hanging Fire Bowl can swing slightly when adjusted in height.
• Wear appropriate clothing when using the Hanging Fire Bowl. Long, loose sleeves can easily catch fire!
• Never use liquid firelighters or fluids such as kerosene, turpentine or methylated spirit to start or
restart your fire. Such substances can explode and are partly toxic and harmful to the environment.
• Be careful when adding fuel, protect your hands with fireproof gloves.
• Remove the ashes of your fireplace only when they are completely cold and dispose of them properly.
Never throw hot ashes into the household waste!
• Due to its construction with the eye rod and central suspension the Hanging Fire Bowl is not suitable
to light a fire inside. It is to be used solely for food preparation.
• Prior to each use of your Hanging Fire Bowl please check the tight fit of the screw connection between
Hanging Fire Bowl and eye rod and retighten if needed.
• No liability is assumed for improper use or misuse of your Petromax Hanging Fire Bowl. Such use
invalidates the warranty.

Before the first use

The Hanging Fire Bowl has an ex works preservation with food safe paraffin oil to prevent corrosion.
Before you can use your Hanging Fire Bowl for the first time for roasting and cooking it must be seasoned.
For that purpose, please proceed as follows:
1. Pour a high-temperature vegetable fat or cooking oil into your Hanging Fire Bowl so that the bottom
is well covered and distribute it over the complete surface. At best use a Petromax Wooden Spatula
or a Petromax Flexible Spatula for Grills and Pans.
2. Hang the bowl over your fire and as soon as it is hot add a generous amount of salt.
3. By stirring occasionally once again distribute the oil-salt mixture over the complete surface, espe-
cially the edge zone. After a while the roasting surface of your Hanging Fire Bowl will turn dark at
places or even extensively and the typical patina develops.
4. Remove your bowl from the fire and let it cool down. Rinse with hot water and carefully remove
roasting residues. Afterwards dry the bowl well and for protection grease with oil or Petromax Care
Conditioner for Cast and Wrought Iron.
5. Your Hanging Fire Bowl is now ready for use. The seasoning process can be repeated any number
of times.
