Module M 3 (foam filter)
Module M 3 (foam filter) ensures the mechanical and biological cleaning of pond water. The pores of the foam inserts for
a large internal surface for micro-organisms to adhere to. The foam inserts are of different densities. In this manner zones
are created causing the water to flow at different speeds. The adherence of those micro-organisms is favoured in zones
of high flow speed (reduced filter density), which ensure the conversion of ammonia into nitrate (nitrification) via nitrite.
An external connection at the filter module improves the higher oxygen intake required for this purpose. The adherence
of anaerobic micro-organisms is supported in zones of low flow speed (higher filter density), which assist a reduction of
the nitrate / nitrogen ratio (denitrification) which can then leave the pond as gas.
Module M 4 (bioballs)
Module M 4 (bioballs) is used to extend and improve the biological filtering results. It contains so-called bioballs, biological
filter elements with a maximum filter surface which float freely in the water flow. Also here an external connection to the
filter module ensures the required oxygen supply.
ModuleM 5 (posphate binder)
The purpose of Module M 5 (phosphate binder) is to convert nitrate into gaseous nitrogen (denitrification) and, above all,
to bind phosphates which, in particular, notably restricts the growth of string algae. The majority of the volume is filtered
in the secondary flow. In this manner, a low oxygen environment is created inside the foam filters which favours the
adherence of denitrificating micro-organisms. The smaller part of the volume flow is guided through the Phosless inserts
where special phosphate binders ensure the adherence of the phosphate.
Common features
Modules M 2 - M 5 are fitted with variable connections, a water level display to check the degree of soiling of the filter
inserts (maintenance requirement with pumped systems; no function with the principle of gravity), a thermometer to check
the temperature, an air connection to enrich the water with oxygen when running into the filter module, as well as a spray
system to clean the filter module. All modules have a dirt drain with stop valve for the controlled drain of dirt water during
the cleaning process.
The maximum throughflow of a filter module is 12,500 litres per hour; the optimum throughflow (optimum effective range)
is 6,000-8,000 litres per hour (DN 100). For larger ponds and/or load, we recommend to install additional modules in
parallel to double the throughflow.

Operating modes

The Profiline module filter can be configured and installed in many ways. In the following, two operating modes are
described: the "principle of gravity" and the "pumped system". Please contact a specialist for all other operating modes
and special requirements!
Principle of gravity (A)
The filter system (M 1/ M 2/ M 3/ M 4/ M 5) is completely buried. Soiled pond water enters the first filter module (M 2/ M 3/
M 4/ M 5) by gravity by passing the bottom drain. In the pump chamber (M 1) the pump is located at the end of the
systems and returns the cleaned water into the pond.
Advantages of the principle of gravity:
– efficient removal of suspended matter because the dirt enters the coarse dirt separating module (M 2) without being
pumped
– low energy requirement due to negligible height differences and low frictional loss
– The filter system can be easily hidden
Pumped systems (B)
The filter system (M 2/ M 3/ M 4/ M 5) can be placed above the pond water level. Soiled pond water is fed out of the pond
(or out of the levelled pump chamber M 1) and into the filter system using a pump. The cleaned water is returned to the
pond by gravity, passing a pipe.
Advantages of the pumped systems:
– easily retrofittable to existing ponds
– low installation requirement
– the system can be easily extended
Module installation (planning aid)
Important! In swimming ponds, the filter pump must be positioned outside of the pond, and always below the
pond water level. Otherwise danger of running dry and, as a result, damage to the filter pump!
Principle of gravity (A)
Dig a pit of sufficient size to accommodate the filter system (M 1/ M 2/ M 3/ M 4/ M 5). For the dimensions/execution, take
the following into account:
– distance from the pond edge (A-1) which cannot be flooded and conforms with the regulations. It is not permitted to
install units operated with a rated voltage of 230 V in swimming ponds. Observe a minimum distance between units and
pond (e.g. in Germany 2 m, in Switzerland 2.5 m etc.)
– that the inlet sockets must be located below the pond water level, such that the minimum water level in the container is
630 mm above the pit bottom (A-3). Otherwise the pond water cannot drain and cleaned in the filter system. Danger of
running dry and, as a result, damage to the filter pump!
– that the overflow openings in the internal covers of the module containers are located above the pond water level and
that the maximum water level in the container is 730 mm above the pit bottom (A-2). This is particularly important,
otherwise the filter cannot reach its maximum peformance, and, above all, because of the danger of fully emptying the
pond!
