Indien het vermoeden bestaat dat er een lek is, moeten alle naakte vlammen worden verwijderd / gedoofd. Als er een lek in het koelmiddel wordt geconstateerd dat gesoldeerd moet worden, moet al het koelmiddel uit het systeem worden teruggewonnen of worden geïsoleerd (door middel van afsluitkleppen) in een deel van het systeem dat ver van het lek verwijderd is.
