Low Frequency Enclosures
Thank you for choosing Peavey's UL™112, 115 or 118 low frequency speaker enclosure as part of your
sound reinforcement system. We take great pride in the design and manufacture of our units and you can
expect top performance and reliability. Your Messenger UL™ enclosure has been rigorously tested before
packing and despatch to your dealer. A built-in crossover is fitted to optimise performance under variable
conditions. The nominal impedance of the UL™112, 115 and 118 with a satellite is 4 ohms.
Full range operation
From the power amplifier connect to the socket marked "input" using a 2 core cable and an NL4 Speakon
connector wired as follows:-
Positive to 1+
Negative to 1-
The "High pass" link socket enables the high pass signal available from the internal passive crossover to be
used with a satellite enclosure such as the UL™-10, 12 or 15. Use this socket in conjunction with an NL4
Speakon
and 2 core cable wired as follows:-
®
Positive to 1+
Negative to 1-
Bi -amp operation
Note that an electronic crossover set to a frequency of 125-150Hz will be required.
From the power amplifier(s) connect to the socket marked "bi-amp" using a 4 core cable and an NL4
Speakon
connector wired as follows:-
®
Bi-amp low positive to 1+
Bi-amp low negative to 1-
Bi-amp high positive to 2+
Bi-amp high negative to 2-
Connecting to the "Bi-amp" socket automatically disconnects the internal crossover .
From the satellite connect to the "High pass" link socket using a 2 core cable and an NL4 Speakon
as follows:-
Positive to 1+
Negative to 1-
Crossover Selection
When using Peavey active crossovers PV23XO or PV35XO, select a frequency between 125 and 150Hz.
Sub sonic filter*
As with all high power sub woofers it is necessary to control the very low frequency content to the enclosure
at high power using sub sonic filtering . Without sub sonic filtering the risk of damage to a voice coil is very
high. The usual damage symptoms are burnt and scraped voice coils and even burnt cones.
Recommended sub sonic filter frequency 35-40Hz (24dB/octave) minimum.
Satellite pole facility
We have equipped the UL™ low frequency enclosure with a satellite-pole facility. By using the
correct satellite pole (not supplied) simply mount your satellite onto the sub. Suitable satellites are
