USING PROPANE (LIQUID PROPANE ALSO
CALLED LIQUID PETROLEUM)
Propane is highly flammable and may ignite unexpectedly
when mixed with air. The propane cylinder used with this
forced air heater must meet the following requirements:
 Constructed and marked in accordance with the Speci-
fications for LP Gas Cylinders of the U.S. Department
or 120 Volts, AC only, 60Hz
Output ..................................................30,000–60,000 BTU
Fuel Source ..................................... Propane (not included)
of Transporation (D.O.T.) or the National Standard of
Canada, CAN/CSA-B339, Cylinders, Spheres, and Tubes
for Transportation of Dangerous Goods; and Commission.
 Measurements: 12 in. diameter x 18 in. tall with 20 lb.
maximum capacity.
 Cylinder valve must have:
— Cylinder connection device (Type
1) compatible with the connector
for the propane heater
— Safety relief valve
— UL listed Overfill Protection
Device (OPD). This OPD safety feature is identified
by a unique triangular handwheel. Use only propane
cylinders with this type of valve.
 Arranged for vapor withdrawal and include collar to pro-
tect propane cylinder valve. Always keep propane cylinder
in upright position during use, transport, or storage.
TESTING THE PROPANE CYLINDER
See Figure 1, page 12.
 Make sure the propane cylinder is disconnected from the
propane hose and regulator.
 Using a clean paint brush and a 50/50 mixture of mild
soap and water, brush soapy solution over areas indicated
by arrows in figure 1.
 "Growing" bubbles indicate a leak. Do not use or move
the propane cylinder. Contact a gas supplier or the fire
department!
 If you see, smell, or hear the hiss of escaping gas from
the propane cylinder:
• Move away from propane cylinder
• Do not attempt to correct the problem yourself
• Call your local fire department
 If no leaks are present, you may proceed to install and
connect the propane cylinder.
