Safety & Installation Tips:

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING: To guard against injury, Read instructions thoroughly
prior to installation and operation. INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO
A RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY TO PERSONS. Basic
safety precautions should be observed when handling the Exo Terra
Compact Top, including the following:
CAUTION: DO NOT IMMERSE.
CAUTION: FOR INDOOR USE ONLY.
1. READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS aand all
important notices on the appliance before using. Failure to do so
may result in damage to the unit.
2. WARNING: This appliance is NOT waterproof and MUST be
protected from coming in contact with water. This equipment is FOR
INDOOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY, NOT for commercial use.
WARNING: THIS IS NOT AN AQUARIUM CANOPY It should not be
used on any type of aquarium. Not For Damp Locations.
WARNING – Hot surface, avoid any contact while operating. To avoid
injury, do not contact hot parts. Allow fixture to cool for 15 min.
before RE-lamping, cleaning or repositioning the fixture.

3. Always unplug an appliance from an outlet when not in use,
before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank
cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
4. This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years
and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been
given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in
a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not
play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be
made by children without supervision.
5. The external flexible cable or cord of this luminaire cannot be
replaced; if the cord isdamaged, the luminaire shall be destroyed.
6. To avoid injury, do not contact hot parts, allow to cool down before
handling.
7. Do not use the appliance for other than intended use. The
use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance
manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
8. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to
weather or to temperatures below freezing.
9. The safety of this appliance is guaranteed only provided that the
bulb(s) is (are) of the appropriate type and properly installed.
10. Do not use any other lamp type than compact fluorescent or LED
bulbs. WARNING: do NOT use incandescent bulbs!
11. Provide sufficient ventilation ! Never cover the Compact Top.
12. The housing of this fixture, may only be opened by authorized
personnel or by the manufacturer.
13. Unplug the fixture before performing any maintenance of any
kind in the terrarium.
14. Disconnect the plug of the fixture, and any other electrical
equipment, used for the terrarium, paludarium or aqua-terrarium
before placing your hands in the water; and/or performing any
maintenance of any kind.
15. WARNING: Whenever installing, removing, changing or
maintaining bulbs, always ensure that the device is unplugged.
16. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating
should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the
appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the
cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.
17. DANGER – To avoid possible electrical shock, special care should
be taken. For each of the following situations, do not attempt repairs
yourself; return the appliance to an authorized service facility for
service or discard the appliance:
A. If the appliance falls into the water, DON'T reach for it! First
unplug it and then retrieve it. If the electrical components of the
appliance get wet, unplug the appliance immediately.

B. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not be
plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.
C. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged electrical cord
or plug, or if it is malfunctioning or if it is dropped or damaged in
any manner.
D. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or electrical outlet
getting wet, position the appliance to one side of a wall mounted
outlet to prevent water from dripping onto the outlet or plug.
A "drip-loop" should be arranged. The "drip-loop" is that part
of the cord below the level of the unit and the outlet, or the
connector if an extension cord is used, to prevent water from
traveling along the cord and coming in contact with the outlet
or light unit. If the plug or outlet does get wet, DON'T unplug
the electrical cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that
supplies power to the appliance, then unplug and examine for
presence of water in the outlet.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
Only the faithful observation of these installation, electrical and
maintenance guidelines will ensure the safe and efficient use of
this appliance.
INSTALLATION & OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Unpack the Compact Top Canopy and verify that all components of
the light fixture are undamaged before putting it into operation.
1. Screw Exo Terra
the threaded fitting(s) on the underside of the canopy. TIP: apply
a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the threads on the base of
the light bulb before screwing it in. This will make it easier to
unscrew the bulb when it is time to replace it.
2. Verify that the light bulb(s) is correctly installed in the threaded
fitting(s). Carefully place the canopy on the terrarium rim with the
light bulb(s) facing downward.
3. Do not place object(s) on the top of the canopy, except in the
special sliding rim designed for this purpose. The ventilation
slots on top of the canopy allow heat to escape, do not obstruct
these vents in any way and ensure that any dust or debris is
promptly removed.
4. Connect the plug of the power cable to the wall receptacle.
Use the canopy switch to turn lighting on or off. WARNING: DO
NOT plug in the canopy if there is water on parts not intended
to be wet.
