LIFESPAN
The harness is your direct link to the rest of your safety system.
You are responsible for inspecting your harness before every
use. If there are any doubts regarding its safety, you should
immediately discontinue its use and destroy the harness to
prevent further use.
All harnesses have a limited lifespan. To determine if your
harness is safe to use, you must inspect it per our inspection
procedures included in this document. Arc'teryx harnesses
that are stored properly and pass all inspection criteria may
be used until it reaches 10 years of age from its date of
manufacture. The date your harness was manufactured can be
found on the care and content label permanently attached to
every Arc'teryx harness (Figure 1).
Remember that some factors impacting harness lifespan will
not be visible, so you must know the history and exposure
of the harness to environmental factors (ultraviolet light, salt
water, extreme heat, etc.) and chemical factors (petroleum,
oils, lubricants, acids, etc.). If the harness has been subjected
to a major stress, such as a big fall, it should be immediately
retired and destroyed to prevent further use. Retire any
harness that is obsolete due to changes in regulations,
standards or when incompatible with other equipment within
the safety system.
You are responsible for knowing these factors and if there is
any doubt on the condition of the harness, discontinue its use
and destroy the harness.
