turns off all by itself.
Your notebook will not work
on battery alone.
The batteries seem to
discharge too quickly.
Possible Cause
AC adapter has no power from
AC outlet, airplane seat jack, or
car cigarette lighter.
Power management parame-
ters are set for auto timeouts
which are too short for your
needs.
You have a battery failure.
You are operating on battery
power and ignored a low bat-
tery alarm until battery is dead
and system is in Dead Battery
Suspend mode.
Your power adapter has failed
or lost its power.
No battery is installed.
Installed battery is dead.
The batteries are improperly
installed.
Your installed batteries are
faulty.
You are running an application
that uses a lot of power.
The power savings features
may be disabled.
Possible Solutions
Move the AC cord to a different outlet, check for a line switch or tripped circuit breaker
for the AC outlet. If you are using an auto/airline adapter in a car make sure the igni-
tion switch is in the On or Accessories position.
Press any button on the keyboard, or move the mouse to restore operation. If that
fails, push the Power/Suspend/Resume button. Check your power management set-
tings, or close your applications and go to the Power Options Properties in the Control
Panel to adjust the timeout values to better suit your needs.
Verify the condition of the batteries using the Status Indicator panel, and replace or
remove any batteries that are shorted.
Install a power adapter and then push the Power/Suspend/Resume button.
"Power Sources" on page 41.
Make sure the adapter is plugged in and the outlet has power.
Install a charged battery.
Replace the battery with a charged one or install a power adapter.
Verify that the batteries are properly connected by re-installing them.
Verify the battery conditions using the Status Indicator panel and replace or remove
any batteries that are shorted.
Use both the primary battery and an optional second battery and/or use a power
adapter for this application when at all possible.
Check the Power Options menu settings and adjust according to your operating
needs.
