POLI-AXIAL ADJ™ HINGE
Things to know before adjusting the brace:
To treat either the medial or lateral compartment osteoarthritis, the brace
has a user-friendly adj™ hinge mechanism, which can be adjusted to
optimize the unloading effect in either the medial or
lateral compartment of the knee.
The degree of adjustment required depends on the patient's symptoms,
weight, musculature, ease of joint manipulation, and severity of joint
degeneration.
For example: More hinge correction may be needed for patients with an
increase in symptoms or an increase in Body Mass Index (BMI).
a trained dealer or clinician should make all hinge
adjustments. össur does not recommend that patients make
adjustments.
Hinge adjustment
1. Remove the adj™ cover; this will expose the Adjusting Mechanism,
Adjusting Screw (A), and Locking Screw (B).
2. Adjust one adj™ Mechanism at a time.
3. Use a Robertson Screwdriver to back the Locking Screw out
approximately two full turns counterclockwise (do not remove
completely).
4. Use a Robertson Screwdriver to turn Adjusting Screw clockwise to
increase hinge angle or counter-clockwise to decrease hinge angle.
*Three flat sides (1⁄2 turn) of the Adjusting Screw represents
approximately one degree adjustment, therefore, one complete turn of the
screw equals approximately two degrees of adjustment.
Note: over-adjustment may result in brace rotation and/or excessive
pressure. Discrepancy between proximal and distal correction may
result in altered fit of brace.
5. Apply a thread lock compound to the locking screw.
6. Retighten the locking screw snug to the hinge. Do not overtighten as
this will cause premature hinge failure.
7. Repeat the adjustment procedure for the other adj™ Mechanism.
8. When complete, replace the adj™ covers.
9. Correctly re-apply the brace to the patient's leg and assess the fit.
Ensure the dfs™ strap is applied with sufficient tension to augment
the unloading effects of the adj™ hinge.
BRACE MAINTENANCE

Follow these easy maintenance steps to keep brace in good condition.
CLEANING
• Sensil
liners may be wiped down with disinfectant liquid to prevent
®
build-up of harmful bacteria and with antibacterial detergent once a
week.
• For more thorough cleaning: liners, straps and strap pads may be
removed.
• Hand-wash using mild non-detergent soap
• Rinse thoroughly and air dry
• Do not machine wash
