1. Introduction
BOD measurement with RESPIROMETRIC Sensor is based on the RESPIROMETRIC method that provides a direct
measurement of the oxygen consumed by microorganisms from an air or oxygen-enriched environment in a closed
atmosphere, at a constant temperature (20 °C ± 0.5) and with a soft sample stirring.
The measurement of BMP (Biochemical Methane Potential or Biochemical Methanization Potential) represents the
anaerobic correspondent of the BOD tests in fact an adequate anaerobic microbial inoculation is used to degrade the test
substrate anaerobically. During the test the production of biogas and/or methane is proportional to the quantity of organic
substance gradually degraded.
2. Assembly and installation
Upon receipt and after having removed the packaging, please check the integrity of the instrument. The box includes:
● RESPIROMETRIC Sensor
The RESPIROMETRIC Sensor is delivered with 2 lithium batteries installed: remove the insulating strip from the rear without
opening it.
3. Operating controls
The display of the electronic measuring unit is normally turned off reducing the consumption of internal batteries. The touch of a
key activates the display which automatically is turned off after three seconds. The key activates different functions if the unit is
performing a measurement or if it is in memory code and if the unit is in wireless mode. When the display is turned off and no
analysis is performed, RESPIROMETRIC Sensor shows the symbol
3.1 Wireless or non-wireless mode
RESPIROMETRIC Sensor is already set on the wireless mode. To switch to a non-wireless mode, keep pressed SET when
the display is off until "S.E.T." appears. When the three dots disappear:

If no values are stored, the display shows three points after a prolonged pressing of key START.
Reset
Keys SET+START kept pressed Measurement cycle stopped, stored values deleted and the scale is shown
Before starting a new measuring cycle, it is requested to reset the stored values.
NOTE: before beginning an additional RESPIROMETRIC Sensor, it's necessary to wait that the display shows "An".
3.4 Last data recovery
If during an analysis the Wireless DataBox™ loses some data, it's possible to retrieve the data for the last seven samplings
by pressing SET twice: in this way data will be automatically sent to the Wireless DataBox™.
