INSTRUCTION SHEET FOR FEDERAL MODEL 300TAR TONE ACTIVATED RELAY
I. GENERAL.
The Federal Model 300TAR is a tone activated relay for the control of warning lights, door locks,
automatic dialers or other circuits. The 300TAR activates the device(s) when any tuned SelecTone
signal is applied to the signal input of the 300TAR through the signal lines via appropriate signal
connector kits (300CK, 300CKS, AM25CK, AM70CK, AM100CK). The 300TAR simplifies the
SelecTone system eliminating the need for separate control
circuits for activation of signal lights, or similar devices in the system. The 300TAR can also be
used as an audio signal activated relay by placing the mode selector jumper J3 to PA (page
activation) mode. In the PA mode, the output relay can be activated by tone or voice paging.
The duration of the relay output closure can be preset by an internal control to any interval
between 5 and 75 seconds after the activating signal ceases. There is a sensitivity control provided
to control the sensitivity of the 300TAR in the PA mode of operation. The frequency tuning
control can be used to tune the 300TAR for activation at a desired signal frequency from 470 Hz to
1300 Hz.
Reliable operation of the 300TAR requires that the input signal be 1 Vrms. As a result, each
300TAR requires the use of a signal connector that properly terminates the SelecTone system
signal line at the 300TAR signal input. 10, 25, 70 and 100 Vrms signal line connector kits are
available for use with the 300TAR. The 300TAR has a NEMA4X enclosure and it is UL listed for
indoor and outdoor use. The unit is also CSA approved.
