Introduction to Installation
General Information
Each multi dock will recharge up to four computers, while providing an
interface to a LAN or to an RS485 communication system. You can mount
several multi docks, side by side or stacked vertically (or both), depending
on the number to be installed and the space available.
This kit contains a bracket for mounting a multi dock on a vertical wall
surface. A second bracket is needed to install the ac to dc power supply
(normally, one supply for every two multi docks). One power cable is pro
vided for each multi dock, while optional cables are available for RS485 or
Ethernet (LAN) connections. An RS485 terminator, when specified on the
customer order, is included in this kit.
Bracket installation hardware must be purchased locally and is
not provided in this kit.
The installation holes on the mounting brackets are spaced 16 inches on
center to accomodate a standard stud wall. Use quarter inch diameter lag
screws (not provided in kit) directly into the studs. When mounting on
drywall and studs are not conveniently located, securely fasten a sheet of
3
/
inch plywood to available studs, then use quarter inch diameter lag
4
screws to install the mounting brackets.
When mounting multi docks on other wall surfaces such as cinder block,
solid concrete, or a metal bulkhead, use the appropriate quarter inch
(minimum) diameter bolts or screws, and nuts or anchors.
Mounting Distances
General
Minimum and maximum mounting distances are limited by the following
factors:
Vertical Clearance
Figure 1 shows minimum and maximum allowable spacing between brack
ets (not multi docks). When installing brackets vertically, the lower holes
on each bracket must be at least 15 inches vertically distant from the low
er holes on brackets above or below. This distance is required to allow
room for terminal insertion and removal.
