Intended Use
To get sharp scythes and sickles with best cutting results, scythes and sickles
should not be whetted, but only be thinned. With this thinning machine you
can hone scythes and sickles sharp and clean in a few minutes only.
Before fist Use
1. To mount the thinning machine on a suitable table or
bench, use woodscrews. If you intend to use the
thinning machine in a variety of locations, use a
suitable screw clamp and place it in the square notch
(1) in the housing.
2. Before each use, oil the thrust block (10) and the balls.
3. Unscrew the adjust screw (4) for the scythe rest (5).
Place the scythe for test purposes on the rest and
adjust the height of the scythe rest (5) to the height of
the scythe.
4. Lightly unscrew the hexagonal screw (3) lightly so the scythe can be placed
without difficulties into the guide notch (9). Firmly hold the hexagonal nut of
the pinch screw (6) with a suitable wrench in order to be able to unscrew the
hexagonal screw (3). Make sure not to open the thrust block (10) too much.
The balls have to rub against the thrust block when turning the crank.
