1) GETTING STARTED
Planning
Plan your cable routing carefully to determine the number of outlet locations required for
phone, fax, and modem.
Organize
In the SMC, label the wires coming from your service provider, and separate them from the
voice and data wires running to your wall plates. Determine placement of the Panel. You
will want to pick a spot next to the panel containing the jacks where your Structured Cabling
is terminated in the SMC.
2) INSTALLATION
Mounting the TIDP:
Start with the mounting pin plungers in the "out" position and press the unit into the grid in
the desired location. Secure by pushing the plungers in.
Connecting the TIDP:
Run twisted pair cable to the TIDP from the telephone company demarcation point, or a
telephone patch cord from your VoIP or Triple Play Modem to the Voice Line Input Jacks.
For twisted pair, strip about 3 in. of outer jacket from the cable. Punch individual cable pairs
down on the 110 IDC connector labeled "From Demarcation".
NOTE: The TIDP supports the T568A wiring pattern. Wall outlets must be wired to this
standard.
By punching down on the IDC or connecting your modem voice services into the Voice Line
Input jacks, Line 1 will be routed to the Security Port (see following Security Connection
section), and Lines 2, 3, and 4 will be routed to the Test Port. The short, installed
(3 in.) 8-position patch cord connects the Test Port and Auxiliary Disconnect Outlet (ADO),
providing a connection between the incoming lines and the columns of ports below, and
supplying all four lines to each jack as labeled.
NOTE: Do not use the corresponding input on the Voice Line Jacks if you have twisted pair
wire terminated on the 110 IDC demarcation point. Use either the 110 IDC or the Voice Line
Jack to feed your TIDP. You can have both services if you leave the pairs unterminated on
the 110 IDC that correspond to the Voice Line Input Jack(s) you are using.
Each pair of wires corresponds to one line from the phone company, when UTP wire is
used to distribute phone service (Line 1=Blue pair, Line 2=Orange pair, Line 3=Green pair,
Line 4=Brown pair) (Figure 1).
