5bay Dual Channel SATA/SAS HDD Backplane
A.
Alarm Temperature Setting
1)
45°C - No Jumper
2)
55°C - Jumper at pin 1 & 2
3)
75°C - Jumper at pin 3 & 4
B.
Access Signal Source Selection
The HDD access LED can be fed with signal either from the HDD or from the host controller:
1)
From HDD (defaults setting): Jumper at pin 1 & 2 for each HDD
-
A modern HDD (SATA II) supplies access signal through its own SATA/SAS connector.
The signal is led to the access LED through the backplane directly.
2)
From Host: Jumper at pin 2 & 3 for each HDD
-
An old HDD (SATA I) may does not supply access signal through its own SATA connector.
The access signal must be led to the access LED from the host controller (e.g. RAID card)
through a separate cable.
C.
Connecting the SATA Cable
1)
SATA HDD: take the blue connector.
2)
SAS HDD:
-
take the blue connector for single channel.
-
take the blue and the green connector for dual channel.
D.
Connecting the Access and HDD Failure Signal Cable to the Host Controller
1)
If the HDD doesn't supply access signal through its own SATA connector and the host controller
(e.g. RAID card) has access signal OUT connectors, you can connect them with the "Access Signal
In" (Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) on the back panel of the backplane. So the access LED will blink in green
colour by HDD access.
2)
If the host controller (e.g. RAID card) has HDD failure signal OUT connectors, you can connect them
with the "HDD Fail Signal In" (Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) on the back panel of the backplane. So the HDD
failure LED will blink in red colour when the HDD fails.
E.
Connecting to the Power Supply
It is recommended to connect the 2 Molex power plug with 2 separate cables to the power supply
to get redundancy.
