VAPORGARD ® SERIES LIGHTING FIXTURES
Installation & Maintenance Information
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
APPLICATION
Vaporgard® Series incandescent clear globe lighting fixtures and
fluorescent clear and color globe lighting fixtures are suitable for
use in the following hazardous (classified) areas as defined by the
National Electrical Code (NEC®) and Canadian Electrical Code
(CEC):
• Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C, D; Class I Zone 2 IIC
This hazardous area suitability applies to vertically mounted fix-
tures only. Stanchion mount is suitable for non-hazardous
locations only.
Refer to the fixture nameplate for specific classification informa-
tion, maximum ambient temperature suitability and corresponding
operating temperature (T-numbers).
Vaporgard lighting fixture NEMA/TYPE 3 enclosures are designed
for use indoors and outdoors in wet locations, where moisture,
dirt, corrosion, vibration and rough usage may be present.
Vaporgard incandescent lighting fixtures are suitable for use on
supply voltages to 120V, wiring in accordance with National
Electrical Code requirements for medium base lampholders. For
applications on 220V nominal systems, suffix /250 indicates that
the fixtures are suitable for 250V maximum. Maximum wattage is
300W.
Vaporgard fluorescent (VF series) lighting fixtures are suitable for
use on a supply voltage of 120V 60HZ (220V 50hz with suffix
/220 50) and with light sources of 5, 7 or 9 watt.
WARNING
To avoid the risk of fire, explosion or electric shock, this product
should be installed, inspected, and maintained by a qualified
electrician only, in accordance with applicable electrical codes.
INSTALLATION
(Refer to Diagram A for proper component selection)
MOUNTING
1. Secure the fixture body (mounting module) in its support posi-
tion – pendant, through feed, ceiling, wall, or stanchion, follow-
ing methods that comply with the NEC, CEC and any local
codes.
2. For pendant and stanchion mount, tighten set screw located in
the conduit hub.
WIRING
1. Pendant and through feed fixture bodies are supplied complete
with lampholder.
2. Ceiling, wall and stanchion fixture bodies require adding the
VXH (VFH for fluorescent) series box mounting body which
contains the lampholder.
3. To attach the VXH/VFH (see Figure 1):
• Loosen the two screws on the fixture body.
• Slip the keyhole slots of the VXH/VFH over these two screws.
Twist the VXH/VFH clockwise to lock.in place.
• Tighten the two screws.
4. Connect supply wires to Vaporgard terminals or wire leads
using methods that comply with NEC, CEC and any local
codes.
5. Reinstall lampholder and mounting bracket assembly (reverse
order of step 4). Make sure all wires are safely above the
assembly before tightening the two screws.

WARNING
To avoid electric shock:
• Be certain electrical power is OFF before and during
installation and maintenance.
• Fixture must be supplied by a wiring system with an
equipment grounding conductor.
To avoid explosion and failure:
• Do not install where the marked operating temperatures
exceed the ignition temperature of the hazardous atmos-
pheres.
• Do not operate in ambient temperatures above those indicat-
ed on the fixture nameplate.
• Install stanchion mount fixtures in non-hazardous locations
only. Stanchion mount Vaporgard lighting is not suitable for
hazardous (classified) locations.
• Fixture must be installed with lamp base up, in the vertical
position only.
• Make sure supply voltage meets the fixture nameplate volt-
age requirements.
• Use only the lamp type and wattage specified on the fixture
nameplate.
• Use proper supply wiring as specified on the fixture name-
plate.
• All gasket seals must be clean.
• Before opening, electrical power to the fixture must be turned
off. Keep tightly closed when in operation.
To avoid burning hands:
• Make sure globe and lamp are cool when performing mainte-
nance.

6. Install lamp. See LAMP INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT
section.
7. For fixtures with globe only (less guard), thread globe into fix-
ture body. Hand tighten securely.
8. For fixtures with globe and guard, install as follows:
• 150W max. Incandescent Vaporgard fixture uses an integral
guard cat. no. P50. 200W max. Incandescent and Fluorescent
Vaporgard fixtures use an integral guard cat. no. P21. Thread
segments of both guard and globe are of unequal length
(keyed) to insure proper globe and guard thread match upon
assembly. The clips that are attached to the guard help secure
the guard to the globe. To assemble, align correctly, then push
globe and guard together. Thread globe and guard assembly
as a unit into the fixture body. Hand tighten securely.
• 300W max. Incandescent fixture requires a different globe
(G251) when the guard cat.no. P22 is used. The guard con-
tains a threaded adapter that holds the globe in place.
Place the globe inside the guard and thread the guard into the
fixture body. Hand tighten securely.
9. Turn power on.
REFLECTOR INSTALLATION
1. Loosen three (3) screws on the reflector.
2. Place reflector on fixture body flange.
3. Securely tighten the three screws.
LAMP INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT
1. Disconnect power to fixture and allow to cool completely.
2. Unscrew completely the globe (or globe with guard) and set
aside.
3. Remove lamp.
4. Perform cleaning and inspection as noted in the MAINTE-
NANCE section.
5. Install the new lamp into lampholder. New lamp must be the
identical type as marked on fixture nameplate.
CAUTION
• To avoid shortened lamp life, lampholder failure, wiring faults
or ballast failure tighten or plug in lamp firmly and completely.
• To avoid injury, guard against lamp breakage.
6. Thread globe (or globe with guard) in fixture body and hand
tighten securely.

NEW MOUNTING ADAPTER KIT
The part number for the new mounting adapter kit is VXT-K1. With this kit, mounting non-Cooper Crouse-Hinds outlet boxes to the
VXT20 wall mount bracket and VXG ceiling mount bracket is easy. See illustrations below.
WALL
MOUNT
Note: When mounting a Thepitt outlet box, use four 10-24 screws supplied in the adapter kit.
When mounting a generic outlet box, use two 8-32 round head screws supplied in the adapter kit.
All statements, technical information and recommendations contained herein are based on information and tests we believe to be reli-
able. The accuracy or completeness thereof are not guaranteed. In accordance with Cooper Crouse-Hinds "Terms and Conditions of

MAINTENANCE
1. Perform visual, electrical and mechanical inspections on a reg-
ular basis. The environment and frequency of use should
determine this. However it is recommended that checks be
made at least once a year. We recommend an Electrical
Preventive Maintenance Program as described in the National
Fire Protection Association Bulletin NFPA 70B: Recommended
Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance (www.nfpa.org).
2. The globe, reflector and guard should be cleaned periodically
to insure continued lighting performance. To clean, wipe the
reflector, then the guard and globe with a clean damp cloth. If
this is not sufficient, use a mild soap or a liquid cleaner such
as Collinite NCF or Duco #7. Do not use an abrasive, strong
alkaline, or acid cleaner. Damage may result.
3. Visually check for undue heating evidenced by discoloration of
wires or other components, damaged parts, or leakage evi-
denced by water or corrosion in the interior. Replace all worn,
damaged or malfunctioning components and clean gasket
seals before putting the fixture back into service.
4. Electrically check to make sure that all connections are clean
and tight.
5. Mechanically check that all parts are properly assembled.
