Troubleshooting

Problem
The engine does not start.
The engine runs rough or floods during
operation.
The engine is difficult to start.
The engine does not start, starts hard, or
fails to keep running.
The engine misses or lacks power.
The engine runs and then stops.
The engine speed is too high.
The auger turns at idle.
The auger turns, but has no power.
The auger jumps.
The auger cuts slowly.
Possible Cause
1. The engine switch is in the O
position.
2. The spark-plug wire is loose or
disconnected.
3. The spark plug is wet, pitted, fouled, or
the gap is incorrect.
4. The fuel-line hose is not positioned at
the bottom of the fuel tank.
1. The air filter is dirty.
2. The choke is partially engaged.
3. The carburetor is out of adjustment.
1. Stale fuel is in the fuel system.
2. The spark-plug wire is loose or
disconnected.
3. The carburetor is dirty.
4. The fuel is not sufficiently primed.
1. The fuel tank is empty.

Corrective Action
1. Move the switch to the O

2. Install the wire on the spark plug.
3. Install a new, correctly gapped spark
plug.
4. Push the fuel-line hose into the fuel in
the fuel tank.
1. Clean or replace the air filter.
2. Move the choke lever to the R
position.
3. Contact an Authorized Service Dealer
1. Drain the fuel tank and add fresh fuel.
2. Install the wire on the spark plug.
3. Clean the carburetor, use fuel
stabilizer, and use a new fuel can.
4. Press the primer bulb 3 times, then pull
recoil handle.
1. Fill the fuel tank.
2. Move the choke lever to the C
position.
3. Clean or replace the air filter.
4. Contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
5. Drain the tank and replace the fuel with
the proper type.
