150-Watt, Self-Ballasted, Super-High-Intensity UV Lamps
Ultraviolet radiation emitted from this product. Avoid exposure. ALWAYS WEAR
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. EXPOSURE MAY CAUSE PREMATURE AGING OF THE
SKIN AND CANCER. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR; FAILURE TO DO
SO MAY RESULT IN SEVERE BURNS OR LONG TERM INJURY TO EYE. Never
look directly into the lamp. Exposure can cause eye and skin allergy and allergic
reactions. Medications or cosmetics may increase your sensitivity to ultraviolet
radiation. Consult physician before operating this product if you are using
medications or have a history of skin problems or believe yourself especially
sensitive to sunlight.
FOR PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION USE ONLY
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Read all instructions.
2. Care must be taken, as burns can occur from touching hot parts.
3. Do not operate the lamp with a damaged cord or if the lamp has been damaged.
4. Do not look directly into the UV light. Wear UV-absorbing protective eyewear (such as
the UVS-30 glasses provided) when operating this or any UV lamp. Never operate the
lamp with the UV fi lter lens removed.
5. Never operate this equipment in any manner not specifi ed in these instructions because the
protection provided by the equipment may be impaired.
6. Adequate ventilation should be provided when working on operating combustion engines.
GENERAL INFORMATION
• Install the UV bulb (packed separately) and the Bulb-Saver™.
• Connect the plug to a power outlet that complies with the electrical requirements specifi ed on
the lamp's label.
• Turn ON the lamp. The120V lamp has a rocker switch on the handle. The 230V, 240V and
100V lamps have a rocker switch on the power converter assembly. Allow approximately 3 to
5 minutes for the lamp to reach full lighting intensity. If the lamp fails to light, check that the
bulb is completely screwed into the socket.
• When the lamp is used intermittently at frequent intervals, leave the lamp burning
continuously rather than turning it on and off repeatedly. This extends bulb life and avoids the
restarting delay.
• Any interruption in the power supply, such as an excessive drop in voltage, will cause the
bulb to go out. If the lamp has been recently shut off, wait at least 4 minutes for the bulb to
cool down before trying to turn the lamp on again.
• CAUTION: The lamp housing and fi lter will become hot during continuous operation.
Do not touch these components. The HGS-150A heat guard/stand is attached to the unit
for increased protection. It should not be removed during operation.
BULB/FILTER INSTALLATION OR REPLACEMENT
Use only a Spectroline Built-In-Ballast™ UV bulb. Using any other bulb may damage the
unit and will void the warranty.
1. Remove the Phillips screw attaching the HGS-150A heat guard/stand to the lamp. Squeeze
the stand near the handle to release the hook. Remove the stand and set it aside.
2. Detach the silicone-rubber fi lter holder by peeling it from around the circumference of the
lamp housing. The fi lter will remain inside the fi lter holder. (If replacing the fi lter, press it
fi rmly but gently inside the fi lter holder.) Set the fi lter holder aside.
3. Place the UV bulb through the Bulb-Saver™/collar in the lamp housing. Turn the bulb
clockwise gently but fi rmly into the socket with the fi ngertips. (If removing an existing bulb,
turn it counterclockwise.) Do not operate the lamp without the Bulb-Saver.
4. Reattach the fi lter holder by pressing it with the heel of your hand around the
circumference of the lamp housing. Be sure the groove in the fi lter holder seats over the
rim of the housing.
5. Replace the heat guard/stand by reversing the procedure in step 1 above.
MAINTENANCE
• Always unplug the lamp from the power outlet before performing any maintenance or
servicing. Allow the UV lamp to cool before handling.
• Immediately clean spills from the housing with water and a mild detergent and wipe dry.
Periodically clean the fi lter with a glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
• Do not perform any servicing that is not covered in these instructions. Return the
lamp to the factory for maintenance not covered in this section.
UV INTENSITY VERIFICATION
To ensure that the lamp is operating at the required UV intensity, it should be checked periodically.
The AccuMAX
TM
XRP-3000 radiometer/photometer kit uses a dual-wavelength UV-A/VIS sensor
detector to accurately measure ultraviolet irradiance or visible light. The AccuMAX XR-1000 digital
readout unit with the XS-365 UV sensor or the Spectroline DM-365XA digital readout unit are also
recommended for accurate UV-A measurement. The meters are specially designed to measure the
UV irradiance from 320–400nm with a peak at 365nm.

Spectronics Corporation. In the U.S. and Canada, call toll-free 1-800-274-8888. Outside the
U.S., call 516-333-4840.
