sCale
1. scale is mainly calcium carbonate (chalk), a harmless, naturally occurring mineral found in most
water supplies. "Hard" water contains more of this mineral than "soft" water.
2. When water is heated, the minerals in the water solidify. this can make the water appear cloudy,
it may form a thin film on the surface of the water after boiling, it may look like whitish pieces of
plastic in the water, it may form a film on the walls or element of the kettle.
3. the tOP teC element fitted to your kettle has been designed and developed to resist the forma-
tion of harmful scale deposit on its surface.
4. On traditional kettle element, scale forms a hard white "crust" which adversely affects perfor-
mance and reduces the life of the element.
5. as soon as you notice a "film" forming on the water or on the walls or the element, simply rinse
the kettle and wipe it out.
6. to reduce the build-up of scale residues, always empty out any residual water after boiling. if
you stick to these simple rules, it should not be necessary to descale the kettle, even in a hard
water area.
7. any marking or residue on the element will not affect its performance or efficiency. if you do
decide that you want to descale the kettle, to remove any such residue, or to restore the appearance
of the kettle, you may do so, but please use a proprietary brand of descaler, suitable for use in
plastic-bodied products (even metal kettles have plastic parts).
