General Safety
General Power Tool Safety Warnings
WARNING! When using electric power tools, basic safety precautions should always be followed
to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury including the following safety information.
Read all these instructions before attempting to operate this product and save these instructions
for future use.
WARNING: This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced,
physical or mental capabilities or lack of experience or knowledge unless they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
The term "appliance" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) appliance or battery-
operated (cordless) appliance.
1) Work area safety
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate appliances in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Appliances create sparks which may ignite the dust or
fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating an appliance. Distractions can cause
you to lose control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Appliance plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use
any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) appliances. Unmodified plugs and matching
outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose appliances to rain or wet conditions. Water entering an appliance will increase
the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the
appliance. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating an appliance outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.
Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating an appliance in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device
(RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
3) Personal safety
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating an
appliance. Do not use an appliance while you are tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating appliances may result in
serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment
such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate
conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the OFF-position before connecting
to source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the appliance. Carrying appliances
with your finger on the switch or energising appliances that have the switch ON invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the appliance ON. A wrench or a key
left attached to a rotating part of the appliance may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control
of the appliance in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away
from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities,
ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related
hazards.
h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of appliances allow you to become
complacent and ignore appliance safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury
within a fraction of a second.
4) Appliance use and care
a) Do not force the appliance. Use the correct appliance for your application. The correct appliance
will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the appliance if the switch does not turn it ON and OFF. Any appliance that
cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from
the appliance before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing
appliances. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the appliance
accidentally.
d) Store idle appliances out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar
with the appliance or these instructions to operate the appliance. Appliances are dangerous
in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain appliances and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the appliance's
operation. If damaged, have the appliance repaired before use. Many accidents are caused
by poorly maintained appliances.
f) Keep cutting appliances sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting appliances with sharp
cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the appliance, accessories and appliance bits, etc. in accordance with these
instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.
Use of the appliance for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous
situation.
h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery
handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the appliance in
unexpected situations.
5) Service
a) Have your appliance serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the appliance is maintained.
WARNING: Before connecting a tool to a power source (mains switch power point receptacle, outlet,
etc.) be sure that the voltage supply is the same as that specified on the nameplate of the tool. A
power source with a voltage greater than that specified for the tool can result in serious injury to the
user, and damage to the tool. If in doubt, do not plug in the tool. Using a power source with a voltage
less than the nameplate rating is harmful to the motor.
Specific Safety
Electric Hoist Safety Instructions
• Before each use; inspect the steel cable for imperfections and weaknesses. Do not use if the
cable is frayed, kinked or wrapped improperly around the reel. If the cable requires replacing do
not replace with a cable of lesser strength.
• Always leave at least three turns of the cable on the spool to ensure that the hoist is able to lift
the stated weight capacity
• Inspect the operator's controller before attempting to use the hoist. Do not use if the controller is
damaged. Avoid operating the hoist in damp or wet conditions
• Stand clear of any item being lifted by the hoist or underneath any item being suspended by
the hoist
• Do not hold the steel cable while lifting or lowering any item
• Never operate this tool alone, always have an extra person to help guide the object being lifted
• Observe the maximum capacities and height limitations mentioned in the specifications. Never
exceed the figures
• Ensure the hoist is mounted to a beam which has a maximum capacity which is double the
capacity of the hoist. The beam should be at least 43mm in diameter and have a wall thickness of
at least 3mm
• The hoist is not designed for continuous use and the motor has an in-built thermostat to prevent
overheating and overloading. If the thermostat is activated, the 'cool down' period will be
approximately 5 minutes. If the motor is exposed to direct sunlight it will severely reduce its
operating time before the thermostat will activate the 'cool down' period
• The electric hoist is fitted with an automatic shut off when it has reached its highest point and
lowest point. The height limiter is activated when the Stop Block reaches the Up Limit Lever. The
lowering limiter is activated when the cable reaches the lowest possible point and the cable is
still safe to hold the maximum load, the cable then engages with the Down Limit Lever.
• Always ensure that the unit is wound as shown:
• Never lift people or animals using this hoist. When operating the hoist always keep bystanders
and animals away from the load.
• Always refer to individual product instructions and specifications when using accessories with
this product such as cargo slings.
