Troubleshooting

Before troubleshooting, determine whether the problem is in the tool, the hoses, or the power source. Substitute a
tool, hoses, or power source known to be in good working order to eliminate the item that is not operating.
If the problem is in the tool, see the troubleshooting table in this manual. If the problem is in the power source, see
the troubleshooting section of the power source instruction manual.
Problem
Tool doesn't operate.
Tool operates slowly or
erractically.
Tool feels hot.
Greenlee / A Textron Company
Probable Cause
Improper power source.
Hydraulic fluid level low.
Incorrect hydraulic fluid viscosity.
Hose connections at tool reversed.
Variable torque output screw turned
too far clockwise, completely stopping
the flow of hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic fluid cold.
Power source not adjusted correctly.
Air in the hydraulic system.
Incorrect hydraulic fluid viscosity.
Variable torque output screw
incorrectly set, limiting hydraulic fluid
flow.
Flow control cartridge not operating
properly.
Hydraulic fluid level low.
Incorrect hydraulic fluid viscosity.
Hydraulic fluid dirty.

Probable Remedy
See the specifications for your tool.
Verify that the power source meets the
specifications.
Check the fluid level. Check system for
leaks.
See Recommended Hydraulic Fluids in
the Specifications section.
Depressurize hydraulic system. Switch
the hose connections.
Turn variable torque output screw
counterclockwise to achieve the neces-
sary amount of torque.
Allow fluid to warm to the operating
temperature. Actuate the tool intermit-
tently to reduce the warming time.
Refer to the power source operator's
manual for setting the flow and pressure.
Set the flow and pressure to correspond
with the tool.
See power source manufacturer's
instructions for removing air from the
system.
See Recommended Hydraulic Fluids in
the Specifications section.
Turn variable torque output screw
counter clockwise to increase flow until
desired output is obtained.
Remove and clean cartridge. Do not
dis assemble cartridge. Install a new,
factory preset cartridge.
Check the fluid level. Check system for
leaks.
See Recommended Hydraulic Fluids in
the Specifications section.
Drain reservoir, flush and fill with clean
