Thank you for choosing a Sony Ericsson MD400g Mobile Broadband Modem. You can connect using HSPA/3G/
EDGE/GPRS networks and also send and receive text messages. The MD400g provides GPS capability.
Note: Your MD400g does not support GSM or 3G voice calls.

Remove the bottom cover from your MD400g (Figure 1). Insert a finger nail or a safe blunt instrument in to the
slot (A) each side of the casing and gently twist to un-clip the cover.
2.
Insert your SIM card into the SIM slot. Make sure the gold contacts on the SIM card are facing the contacts on
the MD400g and the angled corner (B) of the SIM card is positioned as shown (Figure 2).

Replace the bottom cover (Figure 3).
4.
Raise the antenna, to the up position, to extend the USB.

Important: Do not subject the MD400g to any pressure, such as supporting the weight of your laptop (Figure 5),
instead use the extension cable (Figure 6).

The drivers and Connection Manager (Sony Ericsson Wireless Manager) application are automatically installed
when you plug the MD400g into your computer.

efore you Begin
Connection Manager works with the following versions of the Windows® operating system:
W indows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4)
W indows XP Service Pack 2 or 3 (SP2/SP3); 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) processors
W indows Vista™; 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) processors
Your PC must meet or exceed the minimum system requirements for your version of Windows. In addition,
you will need:
a USB port
1 10 MB of available disk space
Your subscription must support Internet access over HSPA/3G/EDGE/GPRS networks.

Insert your MD400g into the USB port on your computer (Figure 4).
2.
After a few seconds, the Sony Ericsson MD400g dialog box opens. Select Install Connection Manager.
Note: If the Sony Ericsson MD400g dialog box fails to appear, open Windows Explorer, navigate to My Computer,
find the disk drive called Sony Ericsson MD400g and double-click Setup.exe in the INSTALL folder.
3.
The software installation procedure starts. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Important: The installation process might pause for several minutes. During this time the drivers are saved to your
hard drive. DO NOT cancel.
4.
When installation is complete, click Finish.
5.
Unplug the MD400g, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in.
6.
Once you receive the Hardware Ready message, your MD400g and Connection Manager are now installed
and ready for use.

Connection Manager opens. If requested, enter your SIM card PIN, and click OK. After a short delay your
signal strength and the name of your network operator are displayed in the Status window.
Note: The first time the MD400g is used, it will take longer than usual to scan and find the mobile network.
Connection Manager may display "Searching..." for several minutes until the network is found, at which point its
name is displayed and the Connect button becomes available. Once the network has been found, subsequent
searches will be significantly faster.

reating a ConneCtion profile
Connection Manager should identify your network operator from the information in your SIM card and automatically
configure your Internet connection. The Connect button will be ready for you to click and make a connection.
If you see a 'No Connection Profile' message or if you wish to define your connection manually:
1.
From the Connection Manager window, select View
Settings and click Profiles.
2.
Un-check the Let Wireless Manager Choose the Connection Profile check box and click the New button.
3.
Enter the necessary information and click OK. Press F1 if you need help.

The Connection Manager status icon
is displayed in the Windows notification
area located in the lower right-hand corner of the screen, by the clock.
The icon displays the status of your MD400g, typically the signal strength on a scale
of zero to five bars and the type of network available. The most common states are:
The MD400g has mobile network service of type HSPA, 3G, EDGE, or GPRS.
The MD400g is searching for a network.
Radio is disabled. Right-click and select Enable Radio to turn it on.
Connection Manager is waiting for your MD400g to be inserted.
Connection Manager is waiting for you to enter your SIM PIN code.

To use your Mobile Broadband Modem with your Mac OS X system, you will need "Rogers Connection Manager
for Mac OS". This application enables you to set up and use HSPA, 3G, EDGE, and GPRS connections, subject to
network coverage and availability.
B
efore you Begin
You can find the application in one or more of these locations:
• In the OS X folder on the flash memory drive built in to the MD400g
• As a download from http://www.novamedia.de/rogers
(please check here for latest updates)
System requirements: Mac OS X 10.4.11 or higher, 10.5.5 or higher.
High Power USB port, minimum clock speed 1GHz.
Supported Languages: English, French.

1. Plug in the MD400g. The flash drive MD400g,
2. Select the OS X folder.
3. Open the installer file, for example ConnectionManager-1.9.0.1.dmg. Finder opens to display the installer
4. Double-click the Rogers Connection Manager icon to start the installer.
5. Follow the on-screen steps to install Rogers Connection Manager.
6. At the end of the installation when you are asked to restart, unplug the MD400g.
7. Click Restart to restart your Mac.

Note: The very first time you start Connection Manager, the L2N configurator will run to automatically configure
your connection. Wait for it to check protocol, signal quality and home network. Click Save to save the
configuration. Connection Manager is now ready to use.
