Genesis PH1 Phono
Most modern amplifiers today do not have the necessary circuitry built in to drive a turntable. As a
consequence a necessity arises to use a phono preamplifier. What this does is to boost the level and correct the
frequency response of the output from a moving magnet (MM) or moving coil (MC) cartridge. It will then be
compatible with standard line level inputs on the amplifier. Therefore the volume should be approximately the
same as other components in the system - i.e. CD player.
The PH1 caters for MM, low output MC and high output MC cartridges.Do not connect MM and MC cartridges
at the same time as there will be a possibility with the high amplification factor that some noise could occur at
the output stage. You will note that the selector control on the front panel of the PH1 has only two options (MM
or MC) even though it accepts high output MC. The circuitry has been designed so that it will automatically
sense which type of moving coil cartridge is being used and settings will adjust accordingly provided the correct
selection is made from the toggle switch on the rear panel.
The power supply of the PH1 is provided by 10 NCR18650 batteries charged via a 24V power adaptor.
USING YOUR GENESIS PH1
Using a good quality cable, and selecting either the RCA or balanced output, connect the PH1 to the
input of your integrated amplifier or preamplifier. Ideally suited for use with YBA Genesis products, the PH1 can
however be used with any pre or integrated amplifier.
Connect your turntable to the PH1 via the input terminals on the rear panel choosing either MM or MC
depending on your choice of cartridge. If using a moving coil cartridge, set the selector switch on the rear panel
to standard or high output.
When first unpacking your PH1.....
·
Plug in the power adaptor to the DC IN socket on the rear panel.
·
Turn on your PH1 using the power switch underneath the left hand side of the product.
·
Switch the power switch on the front panel upwards. Initially WAIT will be displayed in the panel above
the power switch.
·
Press the power switch down, holding it for 3 seconds. This enables the phono preamplifier to
commence charging.
·
The level of charge is displayed. Allow the unit to fully charge before use.
·
As long as the power adaptor is plugged in – and switched on, then as the battery power drops, it will
charge automatically.
·
In full use conditions, the batteries can be charged up to 10,000 times with each full charge lasting for
up to 8 hours.
When not in use, disconnect the power adaptor. Power off the PH1 using the switch located on the left
underside of the unit.
Your PH1 should be regularly switched on and the power adaptor connected so the battery level can be
checked. If low, then it should be recharged.
If it remains switched on but not in use, then the batteries will discharge over a period of 10 to fifteen days and
be damaged, requiring replacement.
Should you need to replace the batteries (Sanyo NCR18650P), after installing new batteries please press the
reset switch before turning on the PH1.
Replacement batteries are not covered by warranty.
A word of warning ...Always switch off your PH1 before you connect or disconnect any cartridge. Large output
signals can occur and are best avoided. Always lower the volume when placing or lifting a stylus from an LP and
always lower the volume before you switch off your PH1.
