Intended use
Depending on the model, the DDS function generator generates signals from 100mHz up to
20MHz with different waveforms as well as adjustable amplitudes. The display shows the func-
tions. Due to the digital synthesiser the output signals are highly precise and frequency-stable. A
frequency counter for measuring external signals is integrated in models of the 2100 series. The
measuring is conducted via BNC-connectors.
The maximum measuring voltage indicated on the device must never be exceeded. Use divider
probes if necessary.
The device should only be connected to and operated on an earthed socket (Schuko socket) of
the public AC power supply.
Any use other than that described above could lead to damage to this product and involves the risk
of short circuits, fire, electric shock, etc.
The product must not be modified or converted, and the casing must not be opened.
Measurement in a dump location or outdoors or under ambient environment conditions is not
permitted.
Unfavourable ambient conditions are:
- Wet conditions or high air humidity
- Dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvent,
- Thunderstorms or similar conditions such as strong electrostatic fields etc.
Always observe the safety notes included in these operating instructions.
This quick guide explains safety measures to make working with the device as safe as possible.
The individual functions of the device are described in more detail in the enclosed operating
manual.
Safety and Hazard Notices
Please read the entire operating instructions before using the product for the
first time; they contain important information regarding the correct operation.
• The guarantee is rendered invalid when damage occurs as a result of non-compliance with the
operating instructions! Liability for any and all consequential damage is excluded!
• We do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by improper use or
non-compliance with the safety instructions! The warranty is voided in these cases.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible because of
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The construction of the product corresponds to protection class 1. Only a correct earthed
mains socket (115/230 V~) of the public power supply should be used.
• Measuring devices and devices connected to the power supply should be kept out of reach of
children. Be thus especially careful when children are around.
• First, connect the BNC-output of the measuring line to the oscilloscope, then connect the probe to
the electric circuit to be measured. When the measuring is completed, please disconnect the mea-
suring contacts first before disconnecting the BNC output of the probe from the oscilloscope.
• Take particular care when dealing with voltages exceeding 25V AC or 35V DC! Even at such
voltages you can receive a life-threatening electric shock when you come into contact with
electric wires.
• Prior to each measurement, check your instrument and its measuring leads for damage. Never
carry out any measurements if the protecting insulation is defective (torn, ripped off etc.)
• To avoid an electric shock, make sure not to touch the connections/measuring points to be
measured neither directly nor indirectly during measurement.
• Never touch the probes outside of the marked handling area during a measurement. There is
the risk of a fatal electric shock.
• Do not use the device shortly before or after a thunderstorm (lightning! / high-energy overvol-
tages!). Make sure that your hands, shoes, clothing, the floor, the measuring device and/or
measuring lines, the circuits and also parts of it are always dry.
• Do not use the product within rooms or in bad ambient conditions where flammable gases,
vapours or explosive dust may be present or are present.
• Avoid operation near:
- strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields
- transmitter aerials or HF generators,
- Since this could affect the measurement.
• Only use measuring lines or equipment harmonised with the specifications of this oscillosco-
pes for measuring. Only dual or specially insulated measuring equipment may be used (e.g.
fully insulated BNC adapters, etc.)
• If you have reason to assume that safe operation is no longer possible, disconnect the device
Version 11/07
immediately and secure it against inadvertent operation. It can be assumed that safe opera-
°
tion is no longer possible if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device no longer works
- the unit was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- if it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
• Never switch the device on immediately after having taken it from a cold to a warm environment.
Condensation that forms might destroy your device. Allow the device to reach room tempera-
ture before switching it on.
• Never disassemble the product! There is a risk of a fatal electric shock.
• Do not carelessly leave the packaging material lying around since this may become a dange-
rous toy for children.
• The product is only suited for dry indoor rooms (not bathrooms or similar damp interiors). The
device must not get wet or damp. There is a risk of a fatal electric shock.
• On industrial sites the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial wor-
kers' society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
• If you have doubts about how the equipment should operate or about how to safely connect it,
consult a trained technician.
• Handle the product with care. It can be damaged through impact, blows, or accidental drop,
even from a low height.
• Please also observe the attached detailed operating instructions.
This device left the manufacture's factory in a safe and perfect condition.
We kindly request the user to observe the safety instructions and warnings contained in the
enclosed operating instructions to preserve this condition and to ensure safe operation. Please
observe the following symbols:
A triangle containing an exclamation mark indicates important information in these
operating instructions which is to be observed without fail.
The triangle containing a lightning symbol warns of danger of an electric shock or of
the impairment of the electrical safety of the device.
The „hand" symbol is used to indicate where specific hints and information on hand-
ling should be given.
This product has been CE-tested and meets the necessary European guidelines.
Warning! This is a class A device. It can cause radio interferences in the living area; in this
case, it can be demanded from the operator that he carries out appropriate measures.
Earth conductor, protection class 1. This screw/connector must not be loosened.
Earth potential
Reference earth chassis
Regularly check the technical safety of the instrument and measuring lines, e.g.
check for damage to the housing or pinching etc.
Never operate the device when it is open! !RISK OF FATAL INJURY!
Do not exceed the maximum permitted input values. Never touch circuits or parts
of circuits with voltages of more than 25 V/ACrms or 35 V/DC! Mortal danger!
Unpacking
Check all parts for completeness and damage after unpacking.
Damaged parts must not be used for safety reasons. In case of any damage con-
tact our customer service.
Setting up the Device
Set up the device using the handle or the device's pedastal to operate and read out the device
comfortably.
In order to comply with the technical tolerance date the device has to be opera-
ting for about 30 minutes within the given operating temperature range.
