FUNCTION DESCRIPTION

3.1.

Initial operation

• Connect the power lead to the mains once having checked on the label at the rear of the power
supply, that the instrument is adapted to operate at the mains network voltage.
• No connection cables should be connected before powering up.
• Start up the power supply by setting the On/Off switch to "I".
• To power down the instrument, unplug the leads and then turn the switch to "0".
3.2.

Use

3.2.1. Use of the AX 501 or use of the AX 502, AX503 and AX 503F as independent outputs
• Connect the power lead to the mains.
• Check that the voltage adjustment potentiometers and current adjustment potentiometer are
turned to the left as far as they will go (minimum voltage and current).
Make sure that the "TRACKING" button is in the "OFF" position, i.e. not pressed, except AX 501.
• If necessary, connect the "
protection) and the "+" and "-" terminals to the points of the circuit to be powered, using the
connection cables.
Check the quality and polarity of the contacts.
• Set the On/Off switch to "I". The "LIMIT" LEDs should be off.
• Set the voltage to be regulated by turning the "voltage " potentiometers to the right (increasing
values): the voltage set point is displayed.
• Adjust the value of the limit current by turning the potentiometer to the right (increasing values).
The current value displayed is the value of the output current. If the output current reaches the
limit current value, the power supply automatically switches to "current" regulation mode, the
"LIMIT" LED comes on and the voltage is not longer regulated.
Example:
A short-circuited output (R = 0) leads to V = R*I = 0 and the current "I"
may vary up to 2.5 A (operation with current limitation, "LIMIT" LED on).

Application 2:
3.2.2. Use of 2 power supplies in parallel (without "TRACKING") up to 5 A at 30 V max. (AX 502,
AX 503 and AX 503F)
• With the "TRACKING" pushbutton released (OFF position, LED off), set the 2 power supplies
("MASTER" and "SLAVE") to the same output voltage value.
• Link the "+" terminals together and the "-" terminals together using short leads. Connect one of
the two "+" terminals and one of the two "-" terminals to the circuit to be powered.

3.2.3. Use of 2 power supplies in series (without "TRACKING") up to 60 V at 2.5 A max.

(AX 502, AX 503 and AX 503F)
• With the "TRACKING" pushbutton released (OFF position, LED off), set the 2 power supplies
("MASTER" and "SLAVE") to the same current limitation value.
• Use a short lead to link the "+" terminal of one power supply to the "-" terminal of the other
power supply: use the two "+" and "-" terminals that remain free to make the connection with
the circuit to be powered.
