INPUTS
1. DMX INPUT: the DS12 has 2 inputs. You can use the 3-pin XLR (pin1 = ground/shield ; pin2 = data- ;
pin3 = data+) or the 5-pin XLR (pin1 = ground/shield ; pin2 = data- ; pin3 = data+ ; pins 4/5 = not used).
Don't use both together !
2. SAFETY EYE: used to attach a safety cable when the unit is rigged (see paragraph "overhead rigging")
3. MAINS INPUT: with IEC socket and integrated fuse holder, connect the supplied mains cable here.
OUTPUTS
4. MAINS OUTPUTS: When you use "combi cables for DMX + Power", you can use these outputs to
provide power to the connected projectors or light effects.
5. DMX OUTPUTS: the DS12 splitter has 2 identical but completely isolated DMX-outputs: when a problem
occurs on one of the outputs (short circuits, overvoltage, ...) the other output and the 2 inputs will be
protected and stay fully functional. All outputs have 3pin XLR connectors (pin1 = ground/shield ; pin2 =
data- ; pin3 = data+)
CONNECTIONS AND USE
Normally all units in a DMX-chain should be connected in one long chain. Unfortunately this is not always the
best solution. In many cases a star configuration is easier, from the controller you have 2 or more DMX-lines
going in different directions:
- Easier for your cabling (often less cable needs to be used)
- More reliable: if you have a problem (ex. Short circuit) in the long DMX-chain, all units behind the
problem will not work anymore. If you have different lines, only the units in the line with short circuit
will be affected...
Example: if one of the units in LINE1 has a problem, the units in LINE2+3 will not be affected.
