Caution
The C-TOP+ contains electrostatically sensitive components.
Electrostatic discharge caused by improper handling or incorrect earthing can
damage the internal electronics.
• Observe the handling specifications for electrostatically sensitive devices.
• Discharge yourself from static discharges before assembling or disassembling
modules to protect the modules.
• Assemble the housing of the C-TOP+ to earthed drive units in an electrically
conductive manner, or to drive units which are connected to earthed piping
systems in an electrically conductive manner.
To perform electrical installation dismantle the hood (è Fig. 1 1 ):
1. Unscrew the three mounting screws on the hood (è Fig. 1 2 ).
2. Carefully lift and remove the hood.
3. Route the electric cable through the cable connector (outside diameter
4.5 ... 10 mm) – tightening torque max. 3 Nm.
4. If required, use suitable wire end sleeves for flexible conductors.
5. Wire the socket strips according to the pin allocation – conductor cross section:
0.25 ... 0.5 [mm²] ; without wire end sleeve up to 0.75 mm²
The pin allocation depends on the type used.
Version for managing max. 3+1 solenoid valves and 3+1 sensors
The 24 V supply for the sensor S4 (pin 8, 9) and the 24 V supply for the solenoid
valve V4 (pin 10, 11) is provided via the operating voltage supply.

When connecting the sensors 1-3 (pin 4 ... 6):
• Take the max. permissible switching load of the sensors into account
(è Technical data).
When connecting an external sensor (sensor 4; pin 8 ... 10):
• Only use sensors with sufficient switching capacity (è Technical data).

5.2 Pneumatic installation

Establish the necessary requirements for pneumatic installation:
– The compressed air supply is switched off.
– The compressed air lines are pressureless.
• Connect the C-TOP+ as follows:
1. If necessary, remove the self-adhesive labels from the supply ports.
2. Connect the C-TOP+ to the supply ports (è Fig. 1 7 ).

Installing a tube:
• Press the tube into the tube coupling as far as possible.
Uninstalling a tube:
• Press and hold the locking ring of the fitting (e.g. by hand or by using the QSO
releasing tool from Festo) and pull out the tube.
• Seal any non-required fittings with blanking plugs.

Commissioning
Warning
Danger of crushing inside the sensor bracket (è Fig. 1 4). Reaching into the
sensor bracket can lead to a collision between your fingers and the actuator and
cause injuries.
• Do not reach inside the sensor bracket.
Setting the sensor position
You can generate the switching signals for the solenoid valves with the aid of a
master controller, or you can force the switching of the solenoid valves locally
using the manual override (MO).
There is a detenting MO on the side of the integrated solenoid valves (è Fig. 9 4).
It may only be activated using a blunt pin (max. 15 N).

Sensor position (example)
To set the switching point:
1.
Switch on the compressed air supply.
2.
Switch on the operating voltage supply. The white LED lights up.
3.
Bring the process valve into the required position, using either the solenoid
valve's MO or the master controller.
Unscrew the clamping screw of the required sensor (Fig. 9 7).
4.
5.
Position the sensor half-way between the two switch-off points SME-8M: The
sensor LED goes out at the switch-off points. SMT-8M-A: The red sensor LED
goes out at the switch-off points, the yellow sensor LED stays illuminated. If a
sensor cannot be pushed adequately downwards, mount the sensor rotated
by 180° (cable outlet at the top).
6.
Tighten the clamping screw – tightening torque max. 0.6 Nm.
7.
If necessary, set the switching points of other sensors in the same way.
