The Centralised PBL-80 Unit provides power supply to the Daisalux beacons
at 24V. It can provide an uninterrupted power supply to the beacons (either
connected to or
disconnected from the mains
It enables having different lighting levels in the beacons installation and, moreover,
operational installation tests can be performed. These tests are performed
automatically (Self-test) and can also be activated by pressing a TEST pushbutton.
The PBL-80 has a series of indicators and pushbuttons on its front panel
which allow identifying the unit's status and activating different actions in it.
It
has
connections for
optional
the remote control of the lighting level and launching the installation tests.
OPERATION: The basic operation of a PBL-80 is as follows:
- WITH THE MAINS CONNECTED
the beacons. It allows having three lighting levels in the beacons which are signalled
using the indicator lights on the front.:
NORMAL LIGHTING: The beacons switch on with their normal lighting.
REDUCED LIGHTING: The beacons switch on with reduced lighting.
This reduced lighting level can be adjusted using a P1 potentiometer
inside the PBL-80.
OFF: The beacons are switched off.
The change from one status to another can be activated using the LIGHTING
LEVEL pushbutton. This LIGHTING LEVEL can also be activated using
pushbuttons outside the PBL-80.
The PBL-80 automatically, or manually, performs (TEST pushbuttons) the
following tests:
- FUNCTIONAL TEST: This is performed once a fortnight and checks operation
in an EMERGENCY for 2 minutes. The CHARGE indicator flashes quickly (2
pulses/s) to indicate this.
- DURATION TEST: This is performed every 6 months and checks the duration of
the unit in an EMERGENCY. The CHARGE indicator flashes slowly (1 pulse/2s)
to indicate this.
Note: the automatic tests are only performed when the device is operating
with
NORMAL LIGHTING to prevent the activation of the test when the user
requires REDUCED LIGHTING OR OFF (theatre productions, showing
of films etc.)
- DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAINS
beacons start to be supplied by the battery with NORMAL LIGHTING. This
operation has two exceptions:
- Excessive consumption in output BALIZAS: It does not change to emergency.
- Removal of the CN4 configuration jumper located in the unit's electronic card
and PBL with the OFF status: It changes to emergency for 5 s and then to OFF.
The beacons can be switched off and on again using the LIGHTING LEVEL
pushbutton on the front of the PBL-80, or a Daisalux TD-XX Remote Control.

FRONT PANEL INDICATORS
NORMAL LIGHTING (Green): This indicates that the beacons are being
supplied with power and they switch on with their normal lighting.
REDUCED LIGHTING (Green): This indicates that the beacons are being
supplied with power and they switch on with their reduced lighting.
OFF (Red): This indicates that the unit is not supplying the beacons with power.
enable
The beacons are switched off.
CHARGE (Green): This indicates that the unit's internal battery is charging
correctly. When a TEST is being performed the indicator is flashing (fast if it is a
Functional Test or slow if it is a Duration Test).
FAULT (Red): This indicates the following by using a pulse train:
Red Led
1 pulse
2 pulses
3 pulses
4 pulses
5 pulses
6 pulses
+
PUSHBUTTONS FRONT PANEL (These pushbuttons take precedence over the external ones)
TEST: This simulates a MAINS fault in order to check the operation of the
unit. The test performed by the unit will depend on the duration of the
pulses:
- Pulses < 2 s: a Functional Test is started. The CHARGE indicator flashes
quickly.
- Pulses 2 to 6 s: a Duration Test is started. The CHARGE indicator flashes
slowly.
- Pulses 6 to 12 s: no test is started. These pulses configure the time for
the automatic tests to the current time. The CHARGE indicator switches
on flashing for a few seconds.
LIGHTING LEVEL: This changes from NORMAL LIGHTING to REDUCED
LIGHTING and to OFF cyclically. The beacons are switched back on again
disconnected from the mains and with PBL-80 in rest mode.
OPTIONAL EXTERNAL PUSHBUTTONS (See connection diagram
TEST: This operates as the TEST pushbutton on the FRONT PANEL.
NORMAL LIGHTING LEVEL: By pressing for 0,5 to 4 s the beacons change
to NORMAL LIGHTING.
REDUCED LIGHTING LEVEL: By pressing for 0,5 to 4 s the beacons
change to REDUCED LIGHTING.
OFF: By pressing for 0,5 to 4 s the beacons change to OFF.
PROTECTIONS:
This unit includes:
- Protection against overcurrents in the POWER mains supply and output BALIZAS. In
case of excessive consumption in output BALIZAS, the PBL-80 change to OFF.
- Discharging end device and maintained control of the battery charging level.
STANDARS:
- EN 60598-1: Luminaires.
- EN 55014, EN 61000-3-2, EN 61547: Electromagnetic compatibility.
MAINTENANCE AND PRECAUTIONS:
- For the purposes of avoiding an excessive voltage drop in the installation it is
recommended that the length of the connection cable to the beacons does not exceed 100
metres (for a core section of 1,5 mm
required, core with a larger section should be used or various cable lines installed in the
direction of the beacons.
5 s
- External commands to the PBL-80 cannot be performed using switches. Only use pushbuttons.
- Clean the outside using a damp cloth.
- It has a NiCd or NiMH battery. It must be replaced by other batteries with the same
characteristics when it does not satisfy its nominal duration.
- The nominal voltage, duration, characteristics of the fuse and battery are displayed on the PBL-80.
- Covering with insulation or similar material is not recommended.
- Before connecting, check that the mains voltage distribution corresponds to
that specified on the device.
- Before any installation or maintenance make sure that the unit is disconnected from the
MAINS and in the OFF position.
- All installation, maintenance or repair tasks must be performed by qualified personnel.
