1. DESCRIPTION
The dim controller enables all dimmable light atmospheres to be created via the Nikobus. These atmospheres
are saved in the memory and can be immediately called up by pressing a key without having to dim each lamp
again separately. You can easily set and modify the different light atmospheres yourself by means of the Nikobus
push buttons. The dim controller has 4 voltage controlled 0-10V outputs. Each of these outputs controls one or
more power dimmers. The power control is galvanically isolated in the connected dimmers. The 0V terminal is
bridged within the dim controller. At 0V, the connected lamp will be completely turned off. There is an analogue
control voltage over the entire 0-10V range. At 10V, the lamp is turned on for 100%. Any 0-10V compatible
dimmer with galvanically isolated control inputs can be connected to the Nikobus dim controller. One or more
dim controllers can be connected in parallel to the switching or shutter control units via the bus cable. Take into
account the polarity (B1—>B1, B2—>B2) of the bus connection. The dim controller has a diagnosis reporting
facility. As with the switching and shutter control units, the interchangeable EEPROM non-volatile memory
saves an identification number, the settings, the dimmer parameters for each output, the last set values and the
dimming settings in case of a power failure. Identification LEDs and a sound signal ensure a clear indication of
all functions during programming.
2. PARTICULARS
Start-up function:
Press the select-key briefly in order to select the outputs manually. Press long (>1s.) to temporarily switch on
the output:
• if the bus is not yet installed
• to control the outputs in case of a bus fault (short circuit or interruption)
• to test or localize output circuits.
Diagnosis reporting
During normal operation (not during programming) there is continuous diagnosis reporting on the 7-segment
display:
- a horizontal dash lights in case a correct Nikobus telegram is received
- a capital A blinks in case of short circuit or polarization errors (e.g. change in bus polarity between 2
modules)
- a small b blinks in case of bus power supply errors (circuit defect)
- a capital C blinks in case of a memory communication error (e.g. EEPROM defect) or in case a wrong module
type is used (e.g. shutter control module memory located in a dim controller).
Central functions with operating time (1 to 3s. in modes M5 and M6)
The operating time can be set between 1s. and 3s. One application may be for safety reasons: press a key for
2s. in order to switch off all lights. Another application: different actions are assigned to one key in function of
the operating time.
Definitions
Dmax: max. voltage at which no further visual change occurs
max. output voltage for a manual "on"-dimming function
Dmin: min. control voltage for a manual "off"-dimming function
Dstart: start/stop voltage when dimming on or off
voltage at which the lamp starts to glow
Example:
These parameters can be set individually for each output:
Dstart: between 0-2V in 16 steps (default value = 1.6V)
Dmin: between 1-4V in 16 steps (default value = 1.6V)
Dmax: between 6-10V in 16 steps (default value = 10V)
Settings T1 (rotary switch T1)
You can set 2 series of functions via the rotary switch T1:
- the first series determines which parameters are influenced by the settings T2.
- the second series determines the setting of specific control and delay times.
Times (rotary switch T1)
for modes M1, M2 and M3:
you can determine how the dim ON and dim OFF functions must react. The selected dimming speed T2 depends
on the position of rotary switch T1:
