MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF A MICROWAVE OVEN
The operating principle of a microwave oven is the use of magnetic waves to cook food.
The heart of the technology is a device that can generate electromagnetic waves that led into the
microwave oven heats the water molecules into the food. Water molecules are agitated and produce
heat that spreads uniformly reaching the deeper layers of the food.
Foods with high water content cook more quickly and evenly. For example, vegetables need only
few minutes, (depending on the quantity) thanks to their high water content.
Compared to traditional cooking methods, microwave ovens will not burn food easily if the advice
on cooking times are applied.
Also compared to the traditional cooking methods, reduced cooking time or high energy efficiency
is one of the main advantages of microwave ovens. Limited exposure of food to high temperature
helps maintain its nutritional properties.
The microwave oven is also very useful and convenient to defrost and reheat food.
Cooking in a microwave oven is safe, does not produce permanent changes in the molecular struc-
ture of foods.
The downside of cooking in the microwave is the difficulty of assaying the exact cooking time for
each food.
Use when reheating to cover food and absorb any fat. Use only for
short cooking times and under constant monitoring.
Ordinary plastic
Only if the plastic is suitable for cooking into the microwave. Fol-
low the instructions of the manufacturer. Use only products marked
suitable for use in microwave ovens. Some plastic containers will
be deformed when heated with food inside. Bags for cooking and
sealed plastic bags should be punched as indicated on the package.
Use only the plastic food wrap/cling film suitable for cooking in mi-
crowave ovens to maintain moisture for food. Make sure the plastic
wrap does not come into direct contact with food.
