V – Core bits
You may use any type of core bit with a 1 ¼" UNC connector.
To use core bits with an external connector of R1/2'', use an FF 1.1/4'' – 1/2''
adaptor.
Only use core bits that correspond to the material to be drilled.
All the Virax core bits are on the site www.virax.com, or contact our technical expert
on +33 (0)3 26 59 56 82 for advice.
Do not used deformed core bits.
Make sure that the segments have enough of a cutting edge in relation to the body
of the core bit to carry out the drilling. You may use a sharpening stone to sharpen
the segments.
If the segments are too worn you must replace the core bit.
You may use an extension (ref. Virax 050147 – 1.1/4'' x 300 mm) to make deeper
holes; in this case, start by making the hole with the core bit only, then remove the
core bit without moving the rack, add the extension, put the core bit back and
continue with the hole.
Changing core bit
The bit holder pin is threaded to the right.
Hold the bit holder pin with an SW 32 wrench to tighten / loosen the core bit.
Never remove your core bit by striking it as you will damage both your motor and
the core bit.
You will make it easier to remove your core bit if you coat the threads with water
resistant grease.
You may also insert a bronze/copper washer between the pin and the core bit to
facilitate removal (ref. 050139)
Warning!
The tool may heat up significantly when it is being used or sharpened. You
may burn your hands or cut or scratch yourself on the segments. Always
wear protective gloves when changing tool.
Removing the core
Depending on the materials drilled, the core may remain locked in the core bit.
In this case, do not strike the core bit with a wrench or hammer as you may damage
the core bit and jam the core completely.
Use a chisel, an iron bar or an adapted screwdriver to strike the core directly.
