Mounting and wiring instructions / Pull-wire switch

Destination and use
english
Pull-wire switches are used on machines, on assembly or conveyor
systems where an stop command is required, and where at any point
along the line the switch can be actuated by pulling on the wire.
Notice
The electrical connection may only be carried out by an authorized
person. The declaration of conformity according to the Low Voltage
Directive can be mailed to you on request. Further technical informa-
tion can be found in the Schmersal Main Catalogue.

Mounting
Mounting should be carried out at room temperature. Remove outer
PVC sleeve from wire rope 1 end in the area to be clamped. Secure
one wiring clamp 5 directly behind wire thimble 7. Mount eyebolts 2
every 2 to 5 m apart (using unequal spacing to avoid wire fluttering
which could cause contact virbration due to accidental bumping against
the wire). Mount the first eyebolt close to the wire thimble (approx. 0.1
m). Fasten wire supports so that the wire rope is at a height of 27 to
30 mm above the mounting surface of the switch. Pull strongly on the
wire rope several times and then pre-tension the wire rope approx. 7 to
8 mm so that it can settle. Finally, adjust pull-wire tension, so that the
groove B on the hexagonal sleeve is fully visible.
With vertical mounting, especially outdoors, the switch should be
mounted at the lower end of the wire rope, so that dirt or ice cannot
collect between pull ring and hexagonal sleeve, which would prevent a
signal in the case of a broken wire rope.

Maximum wire rope length
The maximum wire rope length is determined by the temperature
changes and its effects on the wire. With a temperature difference
of 20 ºC, the maximum wire length is 25 m. For wire rope lengths of
more than 25 m and higher temperature variations, it is still possible to
use the switch. If this is the case, an additional tension spring should
be mounted at the end of the wire and/or the wire rope should be
frequently re-tensioned. When using the tension spring 4, the distance
„A" between wire clamp 5 and pull wire support 2 should be adjusted
in such a way, that the triggering distance is according to the support
distance of the table below triggering distance/ pulling force. It is
recommended to use the tensioner 6 for the adjustment.
Wiring and Sealing
The two contacts must be wired in series. Use cable glands or cable
conduits with a suitable degree of protection. Unused cable entries
must be closed using threaded blind caps. For UL applications, only
use copper wire, rated for 75 °C. For single wire use max. 4 mm
(AWG 11) and for fine wire use max. 2.5 mm
Max. tightening torque for the terminal screws is 1.7 Nm. Extreme tight-
ening of the screws will decrease the sealing function.
Note
The pull-wire switches TQ 441 do not comply to the standard EN ISO
13850.
